About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Explore Atlantic Coast Canada. Recharge, think, great food and drinks, and meet some good folks

ABOUT ME

I like to meet new people, share their perspectives, and try to gain some insight into other experiences and lives.

I founded a nonprofit community development group in my hometown of Queens, New York City that's working to foster a tech entrepreneurial community.

PHILOSOPHY

Never stop exploring. There's always more to learn and we should continually strive to become more holistic. The more varied people that you meet and get to know, the more varied experiences that you have, the more you'll understand about yourself and the world.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I hosted while I was living in Hawaii, have participated in a couple of meetups in NY, and have had amazing experiences surfing and traveling with other couchsurfers throughout Denmark, Australia, New Zealand.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

It's like meeting friends you don't yet know.

I'm continually amazed by the extreme kindness and generosity of the people I meet through Couchsurfing. It makes me feel better about people and the world and that makes it a very special and rewarding experience.

Interests

People. All and every sort.

I'm interested in that which I do not know. Which I guess is everything. Being open and intellectually curious is important to me. Learning and experiencing drives a fulfilling life.

I like to socialize, meet new people, and I love food. Eating locally and sustainably is important to me. Travel and food mix especially well because food is intrisically understandable and it's a great expression of culture. Eating local meals is definitely a priority when I travel.

Music, Movies, and Books

I enjoy movies. Some favorites are 4 months, 3 weeks, 2 days; Man on Wire, In the Mood for Love, 2046, Fifth Element, Dune, Summer Palace, American 80s movies.

As I travel and go to new places, I'd like to watch movies from that region. Please let me know if you have any movie recommendations!

It's difficult with books. Wherever I go I find ones that seem interesting and I end up buying too many. There's never enough time to read everything. Fiction, I like Hemingway, Murakami, David Foster Wallace. Non-fiction, The Prize is long but illuminating. Lately I've been reading about archeticture.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

-Scuba Diving with Sharks in Fiji
-Helping start a private Iraqi radio station in Saddam Hussein's home province
-Partying at a midnight rave on the Great Wall of China

Teach, Learn, Share

I studied economic development in college and have a strong interest in the field. Being in the Army, I've also learned a bit about military structure and organization. Mandarin Chinese.
