About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Start working with art projects and write humour again, get someone to ghostwrite my biography, record an album, grow old (enough for it to be socially acceptable to play chess in the park with complete strangers), and curse about those "pesky kids today". Until then - keep on gathering experiences to put in said biography.

ABOUT ME

How am I supposed to write something good about myself without sounding like a pompous ass? Well, here are some adjectives; social, intellectual, funny, kind, empathetic, moody, stubborn, and addicted (to caffeine). I'm also a big nerd and hopeless romantic.

There's probably more to it than that. The simple truth is I love people and I love interacting with people, discussing anything from quantum physics to politics. I'm a sucker for all kinds of trivia and I may be one of the biggest sources of totally useless information on the planet. I like to know something about everything. I'm a vegetarian, I despise all form of discrimination, and even though I'm a pretty tolerant person I have no room in my heart (or on my couch) for people with bigoted views. I also ask all my guest not to cook/prepare any meat products in my home. I'm OK with you having some sandwich meat, or if you order in, but I have to be pretty adamant about not cooking or preparing meat in the kitchen. It might sound petty, but for someone who hasn't eaten meat in 18 years, it's kind of a big deal. I really can't stand the smell, and I also don't want my pans being used for that. Other than that I want my guests to feel at home, and I'm very flexible concerning most stuff. :) I am currently recovering from a shoulder injury, which has proven persistent and makes it hard for me to do much of the things I normally do. This has left me more fatigued so it can sometimes be hard to be as active as I used to be, meaning I can't promise I can be your guide around town. However, that very much depends on my daily form.

PHILOSOPHY

"Time is what turns kittens into cats." and "Disappointment is anger for wimps."

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Mostly hosting, but I'll probably be surfing in the future. I live in a relatively roomy apartment along with my fiancée. We have room to host three people at the very least with room to spare, but it's probably not impossible to fit more if you just bring something to sleep on.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

In the summer there's always lots of requests coming in, and I've yet to have a single negative experience with a surfer. I cherish the guests with whom I've formed a connection, but I'm equally happy to have opened my home to my more drawn back guests. They have all been very kind and respectful people, and what more can you really demand of your guests?

Interests

I have become a pretty passive person the last few years (due to the aforementioned injury), something I am actively trying to rectifying. However it does make it hard for me to enjoy many physical activities, and might unfortunately affect how much I can help my guests out with sightseeing. I've always spend a lot of my time in front of my computer, either writing, designing, working, gaming, or watching movies. I used to work as an independent gaming journalist, but currently I'm planning new adventures. I'm an avid gamer, I read a lot of political articles and share my views on our political climate since politics is something that interests me, I play the guitar, I do some web programming, but lately I've come to really miss being artistic. So I'm constantly trying to find new ways to express myself, and new projects to pour my energy into.
I used to go quizzing every Sunday at the best pub in Gothenburg ("Kelly's Bar") where I guess I'm still considered a regular, even though I don't really go out that often anymore. I would recommend any guest of mine to accompany me there (if I'm able) for a great evening.
I taught myself how to play the guitar (which was a bad idea because I didn't know how to play - which meant I was a shitty teacher) back in 2005 and I've been playing ever since. I still compose and practice from time to time, usually with my very talented fiancée (who will most definitely serenade you if you ask her) since we both sing and play instruments.

Music, Movies, and Books

The best movies ever made is "JFK" by Oliver Stone and "Blade Runner" by Ridley Scott. I can never decide which one is the best though. I love all kinds of movies, with the exception of all the generic comedy flicks they're willing to pump money into.

One of my favorite books is actually the classic novel Watership Down. It's an interesting book on so many levels, and can be enjoyed by all ages in various ways depending on what you take with you and analyze afterwards. I mostly read factual or semi factual books about society, politics or history. If I do read fiction, there's a lot of philosophical science fiction. Philip K. Dick is one of my favorite storytellers. "A Scanner Darkly", "Galactic Pot-Healer", and "Marsian Time-Slip" are three of my favorite Dick novels. In recent years I've also read most novels by Alastair Reynolds and I've come to love both his writing and his stories so much that I would consider him one of the best authors active today. His brand of hard sci-fi is imaginative, progressive, and subversive. I highly recommend him to anyone looking for a good book.

When it comes to music I'd say I'm very picky, but still manage to have everything from black metal to twee pop in my playlist. It's in the melodies; they have to have that special something.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I was on my way home from Wales and waiting in Llandudno Junction for the train to London back in the summer of 2000 when a huge freight train rolls in and stops right in front of me. Something just felt off about it, and when I got a better look there where these warning labels saying "RADIOACTIVE MATERIAL" all over the cars. I don't know about you, but that's not really something that happens to me every day. So that was, uh... interesting.

Yeah, and I once saw a seagull steal an ice cream. What a jerk!

Teach, Learn, Share

I'm a former journalist/writer/editor and programmer, and a cultural think tank (in the sense that I have so many unrealized ideas in my head that I'm going crazy if I haven't already, as well as an extensive portfolio). My experience working in various creative mediums and being a part of the creative process, both on the technical side as well as the artistic, I've collaborated extensively with other artists on countless projects over the years on everything from humor skits to radio shows to writing and producing music, I guess (or hope) I'm a good person to bounce your ideas off of. :)

Also, people tend to see me as a comforting person so I could always be your personal therapist during your stay, should you need one. Former surfers have at times opened up to me during hard times and relied on me for emotional support - something I'm very grateful for and honored by. My home will always be a safe place for anyone who needs to vent or express their emotions. Here we don't judge, we support. <3

What I Can Share with Hosts

Good company along with my fiancée Emma. A bunch of crazy (and true) life stories, a reasonable amount of food, high speed Internet (both wireless & wired) access, good(?) advice, and access to a *lot* of video games. Usually my guests get to have the living room where they'll have direct access to the balcony. In the living room there's two couches as well as limited floorspace to sleep on. There's also a somewhat big TV with streaming services like Netflix and HBO if you need to relax, as well as both current and last gen (and older) consoles if that interests you.

The kitchen has most things you'd expect. The fridge and freezer might not be the biggest thee is but they should be big enough. There's a toaster, a microwave oven, a jug kettle, a soda streamer, and our latest addition: a dishwasher(!), which makes it a lot easier to keep the kitchen clean.

In the hallway there's a bathroom where guests will have access to a tub and the shower. Since the bathroom is also the only WC, it might be a good idea to make sure no one else needs to use it if you take a shower (or a bath) and to not occupy it for *too* long. :)

We'll gladly share what we have with our guests if and when we can. All we ask is that you respect us and our home and ask us before starting emptying our fridge.
