Hi, life lovers. I’m Kate from Beijing, China. I am a September-intake Communication master student at RRU, Victoria. I sincerely look forward to opening a new page in the beautiful city of Victoria!

I have experience traveling for 4 months on my own in Europe when I exchanged to Leiden University, the Netherlands. One day I heard about this app from a nice American when I was in a whale-watching boat in Reykjavik. No whale came up that day, but I learned this app and decided to give it a try.
Just a year ago, I thought I found my love of life which is art, but after some time, I reckon my love for humans is much more than that. I like people, I love to get to know them, and I care about society and individuals. I want to be an independent journalist in the future. I know knowledge is power, but only when it meets real-life with specific practices.
And I won’t stop interacting directly with the world in the near future.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I’m here to make friends in a way that might never skip out of this consumerism cycle. It doesn’t mean that I won’t give any effort, in my culture, it’s always polite to thank people with the gift if get helped.

Music, Movies, and Books

I’m into black and white films, particularly German expressionism. Also a big fan of science fiction stories in the form of literature and films. When I was younger I fancy art films with abstract narrative and artistic visual expression. But right now my biggest passion is documentary films.
I love music of all genre. But when I feel homesick I’ll always listen to Chinese urban folk. I like energetic EDM and Techno too. I always feel that I am a director and script writer when my mind flows with the melody, beat and lyrics.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Paused my study in China for one year studying art history for the first semester and the second travel in Europe. Made friends along the trips, got clear of some clues in a way, and will return to school delightfully with a new me next semester.
Met a girl in Iceland and dropped my plan in the afternoon with her, hitchhiking and making land art. As a person a little bit afraid of water and quite afraid of height, I jumped out from a cliff into the river, in Iceland, and do hiking everyday in Iceland for 6 days in different fields, went into a volcano as well which is very interesting.
Went hiking in mount Etna and had my first tattoo in Catania, to remind my love to that island.
Okay it’s supposed to describe only one proudest thing, should have stopped writing :’)
