About Me

I'm a California native and have lived in the San Francisco Bay Area most of my life. I've also spent a few years in Australia with a mix of studying, working and traveling. I tend to job hop every year or two. I've worked in non profits, for-profits and local government agencies. My work has included: barmaid in a pub, ABA therapy with kids on the Autism Spectrum, youth development, operations management, community engagement, Safe Routes to School programs, database management and teaching English. Currently I'm back in the Bay Area job hunting. Looking to work for a year or two to save up and figure out my next big adventure.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I'm looking to meet new people. I've lived in the Bay Area for most of my life and love exploring it with people new to the area. It continually makes you appreciative of the place you live when you see it with new eyes.

Interests

I don't have any very specific or off the wall hobbies. I do enjoy people watching. I am interested in Sustainable Development and appreciating the natural environment around us. I also am extremely interested in motivation, such as what motivates people to do things or to actually make changes. I enjoy hiking but am not an expert or super fit hiker by any means. I'm also an unhealthy vegetarian.

Music, Movies, and Books

I don't have favorite music and am not very passionate about any type of music. I enjoy most music and enjoy it just being on in the background.

I'm not a huge movie fan as in going out to the movies. I tend to prefer comedies and lighthearted movies as life can be so serious and depressing as it is. Definitely not a fan of scary movies. One of my favorite movies is Murderball.

As far as books I enjoy reading lighthearted stuff when I travel that you can pick up and put down whenever. Otherwise when I'm home I like to read nonfiction books on topics that interest me in the moment. Looking at my library history over the past 2 years some of the topics included: habits, organizational health, women in the workplace, being childfree, end of life care and Will Rogers.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Professionally: I co-wrote a grant for pedestrian infrastructure improvement near a school for just over $600,000 and it was successful. I'd never done anything like it before and definitely had a lot of help but nobody else would've done it if I hadn't taken it on. Also it was in a part of the city that tends to not get upgrades or improvements. The school community had been active in participating in my projects all year so it felt great that they could see their hard work resulted in bigger benefits for their community.

Personally: I did a 9 day camping tour through the Kimberley in Australia. I loved the remoteness of the places we visited, the hiking and the sights were all amazing. Also it was one of those lucky moments where we as a group clicked really well and all got along and worked together. It's a tour where you rarely see or talk to anyone not on your tour and we had no reception the whole time. So you really focus on being in the moment and relying on strangers that become your world for that time.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I'm a very open person and happy to talk about anything from serious political issues to lighthearted topics of discussing the best ice cream flavor (Ben & Jerry's Cookie Dough.) I'm not an expert in any crafts, sports or hobbies so unfortunately I won't be able to help you improve your skills in anything like that. I am great at jumping in and giving a hand with anything that you need done though. I'm also great at organizing and planning things.
