About Me

Hey! I'm an adventurous, twenty something from Canada that is always looking for a new experience. I love learning new skills and challenging myself in new ways. I'm finally starting to achieve my travel dreams and love the new people and places I'm fortunate enough to meet and experience. I enjoy board games, sports, outer space, literature, stand up comedy, hiking, meeting new people and teaching them about my country while getting to know theirs through them, as well. I hope that if we have the opportunity to meet that we can offer one another an incredible experience, great company and memories to last a lifetime!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Looking to meet new people, travel experience, find out what it's like to couch surf and not only meet new people but be apart of their life in an intimate setting, hopefully be able to offer the same hospitality to someone else someday. As an au pair I have some idea of how great an experience this can be so I want to continue doing it and gaining such an amazing experience.

Interests

A few of my interests include, guitar, music, travel, meeting new people, hiking, rock climbing, stand-up comedy, canoeing, roller derby, outer space and pretty much everything that's shared on TED.com.

Music, Movies, and Books

Here are a few of my favorite things! Some of my favorite music is by the band The Dudes(Indi band from Canada), I also enjoy music from Rufus Wainwright, Norah Jones, Jack Johnson, No Doubt, Sam Smith, Adele, Alanis Morissette, The Beatles, Jamie Cullum, Walk off the Earth and many more.

Some of my favorite movies include, Drop Dead Fred, Another Earth, Bridesmaids, Coraline, The Birdcage, Birdman, The Theory of Everything, Charlie Bartlett, and Death at a Funeral(British Version) just to name a few. Generally, I enjoy comedies, dramas and independent films.

And a few of my favorite books include the classic To Kill a Mockingbird, The Book Thief, The Perks of Being a Wallflower, and I'm currently reading Maya Angelou's autobiography, I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings. I also love the short story The Yellow Wallpaper by Charlotte Perkins Gilman and The Lottery by Shirley Jackson, plays by William Shakespeare plays, and The Crucible by Arthur Miller. If you have any you would like to recommend, I'd be very grateful!

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

During my time in Australia, I was fortunate enough to go camping with my host family to Hervey Bay. While we were there, we drove a little further north to Mon Repos Turtle Rookery in Bundaberg. We arrived around 7:00pm to a dimly lit building and a small crowd of people. After being debriefed as to what to do, we walked down to the beach where only a half hour earlier a mother Loggerhead turtle had come out of the surf and had been digging a hole nerve to top of the beach. When she was ready, we approached her quietly and watched as she laid her eggs and buried harm. Once she finished, we walked behind her and watched as she made her way back to the ocean under the stars. That experience, easily has to be one of the most amazing and beautiful things I've done. It was incredibly informing as the event was hosted and guided by a conservationist who explained many facts about Loggerhead turtles and answered many of our questions. I would absolutely reccomend this experience to anyone. It's an intimate moment and one you'll never forget.

Teach, Learn, Share

A few things that I can teach is canoeing(I've obtained my advanced tandem certificate), card games, I worked at a summer camp for a few seasons and know a few ice breakers and a few knots used in rock climbing.

I would love to learn a lot more about other cultures first hand that you can't easily look up online. I'm very interested in learning a new language(s). I'd love to learn to strengthen my art capabilities(painting, sculpting, drawing, writing, etc.) as well as my cooking skills(or lack there of). And I'm always interested in learning new games whether it be board games, ice breakers, card games, or anything along those lines.

Some of what I can share are my experiences living and travelling across Canada, my experiences as a tree planter for a summer(which is more outrageous than it sounds), my opportunities I've had while living in Australia, and some home cooked recipes/meals from Canada.

What I Can Share with Hosts

What I can share with you is everything that I've mentioned above(stories, experiences, games, food,etc.). I feel that couch surfing is not only about meeting new people but gaining a network and connecting with people from all over the world. Entering someone else's home and being offered a safe place to stay is a very intimate and incredible experience. I want to be able to offer the same comfort and experience to you even though we're miles from my home. Giving and receiving generosity can move and change people greatly and therefore, I hope to share this with you and Hope to gain the same in return.
