À propos de moi

CURRENT MISSION

Trying to fit in some travelling between work projects.

ABOUT ME

I like to go out a lot, there are lots of music events near where I live. I also play guitar and sometimes play acoustic nights / open mic. I'm looking to start a new band.

PHILOSOPHY

I'm becoming more of a spontaneous person by the day. I never believed people when they said "once you go travelling you'll be addicted" - but they were right. I used to always book things in advance but you often miss great opportunities if you do that. I'm still discovering more about myself at 28 years old and I don't think I'll ever stop.

Pourquoi je suis sur Couchsurfing

I haven't stayed with anybody else yet but I have hosted a few times and it was great! I have been to a few couchsurfing meetings in London and I loved chatting with such a diverse mix of people. Recently I went to a friend's wedding in Austria and then went on to Bratislava and Budapest, where I went to some couchsurfing events and made some new friends.

Centres d'intérêt

I love music. A lot of my friends remember all of the lyrics to songs, but I tent to be distracted by the tune. Good lyrics are important too, of course. I generally am interested in quite geeky stuff. Also I have been learning wing chun kung fu for a few years, but I'm not very good.

Morceaux de musique, films et livres

Books:
I'm a pretty slow reader because every sentence makes me think divergently about connected subjects. Then I realise that I've been reading the last two paragraphs without actually taking any of it in! Currently I'm reading The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy by Douglas Adams and History of Western Philosophy by Bertrand Russell.

Movies:
I quite like a good epic trilogy like the Matrix, Star Wars or Lord of the Rings. Also I love The Shawshank Redemption. The last half an hour always brings a tear to my eye. Oh yeah, and The Truman Show. Fuckin love that film! I dislike zombie or vampire films although I suppose Zombieland was OK.

Music:
My favourite musicians/bands of all time are probably Bob Marley, Jimi Hendrix, Pink Floyd, Queen, Radiohead and the Red Hot Chili Peppers. Also I love going to local gigs and there are some amazing artists who play nearby. Currently I'm litening to singer/songwriters like Will Varley, Ben Marwood, Tim OT, Sean McGowan and Mark Wynn.

Une aventure extraordinaire que j'ai vécue

The Grand Canyon blew me away. As far as you can see there is just a massive hole, filled with crooked rocks, trees and a seemingly tiny river that carved the whole thing.

Snorkelling in Koh Tao, Thailand was pretty amazing. So many cute or scary fish swimming about. Also the epic country-wide water fight on Songkran was hilarious. You can't walk down the street without an old man tipping a bucket of water over your head!

Saw some beautiful scenery in Jamaica. Cycled down the blue mountains, swam in waterfalls, went to Bob Marley's birthplace and sat on his meditation stone and I felt like I could feel his heartbeat rising from the stone! ;)

Enseignez, apprenez, partagez

I'm teaching a friend to play guitar at the moment. I have a couple of pieces of advice:

1. There are often many different ways to play the same chord. For example, a G can be played with the middle finger on the 6th string, index finger on the 5th string and the ring finger on the 1st string.. OR it can be played with the ring finger on the 6th string, middle finger on the 5th string and the little finger on the 1st string. The one you choose often depends on what other chords come before or after that chord. Choose the version that is most similar to the other chords, so that your fingers have to move as little as possible between chords.

2. Learn lots of songs, and when you learn them think about how they fit together. What is similar and what is different from other songs you have learnt? It's amazing when pieces of knowledge in your mind suddenly fit together, and it will help you to write your own music.
