About Me

I'm a 35 year old bloke from the UK - mellow & easy to get on with. Always up for adventure and checking out new places and meeting new people - love the idea of couchsurfing after spending a fair bit of a misspent youth crashing on people's couches and exploring.

Happily partnered to Andrew and have been for coming up on 12 years. Time flies :)

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

As above - really like the ethos and the chance to meet new folks.

Interests

Lots of stuff: I work in the outdoors, so lots of my interests revolve around being out in the wilds: Hiking, climbing, biking, kayaking, canoeing and chatting with mates round a fire with a whisky or three.

Also: art, LGBTQ stuff, film, music, philosophy, science, cooking, chilling with a cup of tea, you name it.

Music, Movies, and Books

Music, always. From filthy acid techno to contemporary classical. If I had to pick one genre I love it'd be punk, but I'm pretty open-minded and will listen to anything.

Films: Again, anything decent - but a definite soft spot for Fear and loathing, Back to the Future, The Third Man, Withnail, decent documentaries (esp. wildlife), Pi, Almodavar...

Books: I think I probably read too much. Biographies, Music, Poetry, Climbing History and guidebooks, philosophy, fiction - one of my favourite things is recommending stuff to people and getting tips too.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Watched the Northern Lights from a snowhole in the Cairngorms (Scotland) after a day's winter climbing.

Teach, Learn, Share

Can teach climbing/ropework, biking, canoe/kayak, cooking + Science stuff up to grad level. Taught primary/elementary for a few years, so if you want some finger painting and punctuation tips.

Just started surfing, so any tips there would be more than welcome!

Countries I’ve Visited

Andorra, Austria, Belgium, Botswana, Denmark, Egypt, England, France, Germany, Iceland, Ireland, Isle of Man, Italy, Liechtenstein, Malta, Mexico, Monaco, Netherlands, Norway, Peru, Portugal, Scotland, South Africa, Spain, Sudan, Sweden, Switzerland, Tunisia, United Kingdom, United States, Vatican City State, Wales, Zambia
