About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To live my life as fully as I can.

ABOUT ME

I'm an inquisitive Northern-English chap who wants to see/experience/learn about people and places as much as possible wherever I go.

I'm chatty and love laughing with anyone (although sometimes it can take a while for people to get my often bone-dry sarcasm). People have said that I'm very easy to talk to although, lacking regular conversations with myself, I have to take their word for that.

I love getting out there and seeing new things. When I go somewhere new I want to experience the local customs, practices, food, life. I love seeing a different side to things, taking the road-less-traveled and getting a new perspective on life. So far, I've found this in every place I've been and I'm looking forward to continuing to do it. Pushing myself into new things helps me grow as a person, getting out of my comfort zone is scary but rewarding!

My other main passion is drumming, specifically jazz drumming, and I play as often as I can with other jazz-ers in and around London. I've done gigs up and down the country, some great others not so much but I can't get enough of playing.

I also love a hard, outdoors-y challenge; I recently took part in 'Tough Mudder' (12-mile assault course). I enjoyed it so much that I've already planned in the next one, and possibly a third, too!

PHILOSOPHY

Live as openly as you can. In my experience closed-ness isn't a great ingredient for good times.

Try new things wherever possible, you never know if you will have the opportunity again.

Treat other people/places as you would want you/your place(s) to be treated. Why make extra work for someone else "just because it's their job" to sort it out for you?

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I've only just joined and am looking to surf some couches this summer in the USA. If it all goes well I'll sort out some way of hosting people here in the UK to help return the favour!

Music, Movies, and Books

I like to think I have a wide/eclectic music taste so anything goes. I love jazz, especially, though.

I love sci-fi, the possibilities in it amaze me. I also love stories that are about people and how they interact with each other/what motivates them.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Swam in Eyjafjallajökull. (That Icelandic volcano that brought European/global air traffic to a halt in 2010.)

Teach, Learn, Share

Drumming, right the way from the most basic beginner techniques up to intermediate/high level playing, especially if it's jazz.

A basic explanation of chemistry/physics/quantum mechanics. I seem to have a knack for remembering interesting facts in somewhat-unnecessary levels of detail :^)

Countries I’ve Visited

Belgium, France, Iceland, Italy, Japan, Netherlands, Spain, United Kingdom

Countries I’ve Lived In

United Kingdom
