About Me

Hey! My name is Pearl, and I am currently living and working in Richmond, Virginia.

I'm in the process of obtaining my EU passport (Italian citizenship through my grandfather - meeting with the consulate in December 2018!), and after that I'll be moving to Europe somewhere. Currently have my eyes on either Stockholm or Umeå in Sweden, or Oslo, Norway. I have friends in each city, and love each place for different reasons.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

For right now, just surfing. Hopefully in the near future I'll be able to host and show people a great time in Richmond :)

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Scotland, back in 2014! It was fantastic, my host was wonderful.

Music, Movies, and Books

I am a barbershop singer (I am in a chorus and several quartets) so, I really love acapella music. I also love hip-hop - think El-P, Aesop Rock, Del the Funky Homosapien, etc.

I don't really think I have a favorite movie, but if I was forced to choose one I'd probably say "Peter Ibbetson 1935".

BOOKS! I'm currently re-reading all of Anthony Bourdain's books. I love reading, and while I mostly read non-fiction, there are some fictional works that really drew me in, such as "The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao," by Junot Diaz, for example. I also enjoyed "The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier and Clay," by Michael Chabon.

Teach, Learn, Share

Wellllll, I love learning languages. Doesn't really matter to me what language, I just feel that language and food are the two most important factors in immersing into a different culture and learning about a people, and they're the most interesting to me. I've helped a lot of friends with English as a second language, I can help with that if anyone needs it!

I also bake like a boss. Cupcakes are my favorite!

What I Can Share with Hosts

I am a photographer and I use film. So, I usually bring several types of 35mm, medium format, and large format (view camera) cameras with me when I travel, and I'd be more than happy to show you how to use them, let you do some shooting, and then I can either scan the negatives once I get home and send them to you, or I can make prints (or both!)
