About Me
CURRENT MISSION
To learn stuff and make things.
ABOUT ME
I'm in my early thirties and have spent the better part of my life in school - a fact that I'm not overly proud about. I think I've received my last degree and am finally ready to work a proper job. Unfortunately, the only one I'm qualified for, at this point, is university professor. It may be the case that I'll never really leave school.
I'm super interested in the world and its many workings. I'm equally interested in people. I seize every opportunity to broaden my life experience through sharing in the opinions, interests and stories of others.
PHILOSOPHY
I'm quite fond of learning. I value both academic research and personal experience. I'm working to find the proper balance between the two. A day in which I've entertained a new thought or engaged a new perspective is a day well spent.
Interests
I'm super interested in art production (sculpture, installation, video, performance). I also find great joy in teaching (art and communication theory). I collect junk - I'm frequent the thrift stores weekly and regularly attend local auctions. I've been playing soccer twice a week for the last year, or so. I've also developed a great love for ping-pong. I've been performing as Yo Me Mi Conmigo, a one-man percussion/voice/tape noise act.

Music, Movies, and Books
I've been listening to a ton of Fela Kuti, this week. I like to think that my musical interests are broad. I spend a good amount of time researching different bands online. I'm always fishing for recommendations. While musically I travel far and wide, I always return to The Pixies, The Smiths, Pavement, Radiohead and Sonic Youth, amongst others.
I'm a big fan of 1970s American cinema. Badlands may be my favorite. Though we don't get a ton of good stuff here in Iowa, I'm a fan of foreign film (Spanish film, particularly) and American independents.
Teach, Learn, Share
I'm an open book. You are welcome to any/all thoughts, opinions and skills I claim.
