Music, Movies, and Books

Books:
Just about anything by Milan Kundera, especially the Unbearable Lightness of Being
The River Why by David James Duncan
The Virgin Suicides by Jeffrey Eugenides
A River Runs Through It by Norman Maclean
Zorba the Greek by Nikos Kazantzakis
The Great Gatsby F. Scott Fitzgerald

Short stories:
Flannery O'Connor is probably my favorite, I've read everything she ever wrote. Raymond Carver is great, too, and I've always been a big fan of John Cheever.

Lots of others that I can't recall off of the top of my head.

As far as movies go, I'm not even going to say. With books it's easy to name off my favorites. I can't at all with movies. I really enjoy movies but there aren't any that really stick out as favorites, except for maybe Goodfellas. I really like Alejandro González Iñárritu, Wes Anderson, and the Cohen brothers as directors, among many others.

I like lots of different kinds of music. I have a classical and jazz background (really like the West Coast guys: Brubeck, Desmond, Mulligan, etc.) but I like hip-hop and rock as well. Radiohead is my favorite band. I really like Nine Inch Nails too. And the Pixies are probably my third favorite band. If I had to give my top three.

Since I originally wrote this description five years ago or so, I've gotten really into electronic music. Guy J and Guy Mantzur are my two favorite DJs.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Going to the World Cup in Germany in 2006 and seeing 5 games (3 US games) was pretty amazing.

Teach, Learn, Share

Hmm...I can play piano and saxophone and know a bit about DJing. I feel like I know a lot about the social sciences for someone who has never been to graduate school. My Spanish is good. That's about all I can think of.

I'd love to learn more about how I can find/succeed in a career.

What I Can Share with Hosts
