About Me

CURRENT MISSION

LA/Orange County! (whenever I can, that is)

ABOUT ME

I like to talk about philosophy, music, movies, David Foster Wallace, cognitive science, and art museums. I also like swimming, drinking, dancing, soccer, yelling, listing things. I guess this helps. No? I'd like to buy dinner for anyone who'd let me stay on their couch. Or, what's a good way to thank my hosts? Do people like trinkets carved out of soap?

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I've only been a guest so far. Amazing people put me up on my first cross-country drive in September 2010, during two academic conferences in spring 2011, and during my second Xcountry drive this past June and July. I hope I have the chance to put at least some of them up once I'm settled in MI.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Again, totally awesome people have put me up. Each one has a more specific thanks in the section to the bottom right of a profile where I guess they're called "references" are. Check out those wonderful people!

Interests

Shoot! That's what I did above, when I described myself. Except that I'm funny and maybe kinda' intense, there's not much to me besides my interests and activities, right?

Teach, Learn, Share

I have a PhD in philosophy; so I know a lot about that, especially contemporary metaphysics, philosophy of mind, and philosophy of cognitive science, as well as Stoic metaphysics and epistemology. I was also once really interested in cognitive science, especially computational models of vision, so I could share fun stuff about experiments on how vision works and what causes certain sorts of hallucinations. I used to be proficient in Latin and Attic (like ancient Athenian) Greek...but I'm pretty far out of practice.

I would love to learn how to play any instrument, but I think I'd really like to rock on the turntables. I should learn how to cook someday, and I would be totally stoked to learn more about theoretical physics, artificial intelligence, or high-level math. Maybe I'd also like to know how to play chess or tennis better.
