Über mich

CURRENT MISSION

I'd like to find something worth doing that I also enjoy.

ABOUT ME

I am a man of two origins - America and Japan. I've spent about a quarter of my formative years in the latter and it has rightly left quite an impact on me. I try to keep ties with the language, culture and people I've met with there while maintaining my subsistence here in Colorado. I'm a pretty mobile person, and am not rooted easily. The longest I've lived anywhere since I was seven is 3 years. I like to explore and learn and find ways to live better.

PHILOSOPHY

I basically try to be laid back. I don't try and force things to happen. I go with the flow as much as possible. I used to worry about stuff a bunch, but that never netted me anything positive. So, I try to just let life happen now, and take the opportunities as they come.

I want to strengthening the global community by meeting new people and sharing experiences and ideas.

Interessen

I have so many interests, it's tough to think of them all let alone list them. Then again, that's probably most people. Anyway, here's a handful complete with categories.

Physical Activities: hiking, backpacking, skiing and a bit of boarding, ultimate frisbee

Nonphysical Activity: video games, film, music, chillin', learning Japanese and linguistics

Etc: Japanese cultural activities (kendo, shodo, taiko), playing saxophone

Musik, Filme und Bücher

My all-time favorite movie is Memento. If you haven't seen it, it's about a man with short-term memory loss. What makes it interesting is how they've compiled the scenes in reverse order to give the viewer the same feeling of not knowing the recent past. It's the best movie I've ever seen to actually put you in the main characters shoes. Phenomenal.

I like all kinds of music. I lean towards more instrumental stuff, especially good jazz. I'm not much into pop or country, and I'm still gaining an appreciation for good hip-hop and a little rap.

I don't read books very much. Don't get me wrong though, it's not because I don't like to read; it's just I guess I don't get urge to that often. I do throughly enjoy hearing about the books others have read though.

Eine tolle Erfahrung, die ich gemacht habe

Millions of people have seen the Grand Canyon, but I have backpacked in it! I took a 13-mile trek down to the Havasupai Native American reservation and stayed for three days or so. If any place I've been could be compared to a Shangri-La, this would be it. You hike down for hours into what appears to be a dried wasteland, and then you emerge into a paradise of lush green trees and crystal blue waterfalls. It's an unforgettable experience.

Lehren, lernen, teilen

Well, I know a lot about Japan and Japanese, and I would love to share it with people all around the world.

I did kendo (Japanese fencing) for 5 years, so I know a thing or two about that as well.
