About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Learn, bike, teach, hike

ABOUT ME

I'm an American expat living in Amsterdam, teaching and doing research.

I lived in Phoenix, Arizona until I was 22, and I lived in Albuquerque, New Mexico for the next seven years. I was offered a job in the Netherlands in spring, 2011, so I sold everything I owned except for two suitcases of clothes and bought a one-way ticket to Amsterdam.

I lived in the Southwestern U.S. for most of my life, but I've traveled a lot too. Some highlights include Oaxaca (Southwestern Mexico), the Canadian Rockies, the U.S. Rockies, the U.S. Pacific Northwest, Japan, and a bundle of European countries.

I'm a lot like what you might expect out of an expat American. I'm very liberal, open minded, and I like trying new foods, meeting new people, and going new places.

PHILOSOPHY

Generally, my philosophy is:Eat rightExerciseBe open-mindedTry to experience new thingsAnd, most importantly, don't be mean to people

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I live about three kilometers from Central Station in Amsterdam, and I'm happy to host occasionally. I might not always have space (Amsterdam folk get a lot of requests), but I write back to all messages and requests very quickly, so don't hesitate to drop me a line.I also go to some local events in Amsterdam, and I try to meet up with Couchsurfers when I'm traveling for pleasure rather than for work.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I've had nothing but good experiences on couchsurfing. All of my guests have been fun and memorable, and my hosts have been generous, friendly, and fun.

Interests

I love:

Good beer. I am an enthusiastic beer snob.

Hiking. Taking long hikes through the desert mountains was a major hobby of mine in the U.S., and I was fortunate enough to hike in the Alps in Austria in fall 2011. I hope to hike more in Europe.

Tea. I love good loose leaf greens, blacks, oolongs, and whites.

Biking. I rode my bike to work for ten years in the U.S., and I love biking in Amsterdam.

Ultimate Frisbee. I like to play.

Photography.

And, obviously traveling - part of why I'm on the site.
