About Me
Hi! My name is Jordana and I'm a Canadian gal who has done a fair amount of travelling in the past and is about to embark on a new adventure in New Zealand.
I grew up in Halifax, Nova Scotia and just wanted to travel when I grew up. I did a couple of youth volunteer programs that helped me travel right after high school and then I became a tree planter to fund a series of backpacking trips in my 20s. I then decided to go to college to learn some new skills and try living in one place for a while. That brought me to Victoria, BC, where I have been living for the past 8 years. I studied Environmental Technology and worked in that field for a number of years and saw some beautiful places around Vancouver Island.
But the desire to travel never really went away and once pandemic restrictions around international travel started being lifted, I decided to apply for a Working Holiday Visa in New Zealand. My plan is to be in New Zealand for up to 18 months starting in September 2023 and to see as much of the country as I possibly can, while also working seasonal and contract jobs while I'm there. I've heard so many good things about New Zealand and am so excited I'll be there for so long to really be able to experience what the country has to offer.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
I think it's an amazing way to meet locals and experience a new place. I have met some amazing people on my travels and have made lifelong friends through Couchsurfing. Of course I appreciate saving money on accommodations but it's not the main reason I'm here. It's the connection and exchange that has brought me back here and if I really just need a bed for a night, I'll pay for a hostel.
Interests
I love to hike and walk around new places and just people watch. I love to dance and have have learned many different styles (to varying degrees of success). I love salsa dancing in particular though am a little out of practice.
I like needle crafts like knitting, crochet and embroidery. I find they're very meditative and can be a nice way to spend an evening, maybe if it's cold or storming outside.
I love camping and sitting by a campfire with friends, just talking or singing songs.
I LOVE trivia! If you need someone for a trivia, give me a shout. My best categories are geography and movies but I have a good memory for random facts in many categories. My worst categories are sports and video games.

Music, Movies, and Books
I love both movies and books. There are too many to list, but if you're a movie/book lover, we'll have something to talk about. I've been reading more fantasy/sci-fi in the last few years and finally got around to reading LOTR for the first time last year. I've also gotten into the Dune series and ASOIAF
My taste in music is varied, I like a lot of genres. If I had to choose an era as a favourite, I'd probably choose the 70s because of how many genres were alive and kicking at that time - rock, funk/soul, disco, some punk, and the Beatles were still making music in the early 70s
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
I've planted over 600,000 trees in western Canada as a tree planter
Teach, Learn, Share
I can teach you how to knit. I haven't done it in a while but I knitted for years and can teach you the basic stitches
I enjoy cooking, especially with others. I can share a favourite recipe and I also love learning new recipes from people
I play a lot of cribbage with my family, I can teach you how to play. I also like learning new games.
What I Can Share with Hosts
Meals, chats/stories, I usually travel with coffee beans, I can share those if I have some.
