About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To learn as much as possible about everything and everyone and become good at everything while somehow maintaining some small amount of tranquility.

ABOUT ME

I moved to Logan, UT in Jan 2011 to start a graduate program studying the biodiversity and community ecology of native bees of Pinnacles National Monument in central California. I now spend about half my time in CA and half in UT, so I never really know exactly where I am going to be living for any length of time. I also spend a lot of time on my bike and my skis when possible.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Well--I travel a lot for conferences, field biology projects, bike races or when I'm running away from all of these things, so I often need places to crash while on road trips. Couch surfer hosts are the best! I have met some really awesome people. Someday I really hope to be more able to more regularly host others!

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I've had a few really fantastic experiences staying with people from CS. It's amazing how friendly and generous strangers can be and how it can enhance your traveling experience beyond all expectation! Thanks guys!

Interests

Running, road biking, mountain biking, swimming, surfing (a bit), rock climbing (now and then), backpacking, skiing, snowboarding, exploring, etc...
Writing, reading, learning.
And of course, science, especially that of the small but mighty insects!

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Not that travel is the only way to do and see amazing things, but that is the theme here, so:
-High School exchange student in Germany (2000)
-US hitchhiking adventure (2004)
-2200 mile self-supported, self-directed bike tour though Europe--best way to travel! (London to Rome) (2005)
-Biking over many gorgeous Colorado Mountain Passes with my dad (2007 & 2008)
-Traveling by train through India and trekking in Nepal (2008)
-Solo Yosemite adventures and travel for bee busyness! (2011)

There is so much more I want to do and see but right now I'm a bit constrained by school and finances. Next up:
-Caving and marine biology in Africa?
-Kilimanjaro? Yes please!
-Swimming in/around/to Greece?
-Beeing in Israel?
-Hiking the PCT?
-Biking eastern Europe?
-Antiquing in Egypt? :)
-Trekking South America?
-Mountain biking, backpacking, disappearing in New Zealand?
-I want to go to Turkey...not sure why exactly...
