About Me
ABOUT ME
My name is Jochen and I was born in 1988 in the beautiful south of Germany.
I grew up in Engen, a small, but very nice town, 20 minutes from the Lake Constance. Since 2008 I live in Freiburg, where I had studied theology, German philology and English philology first. Since 2015 I do my second studies in social sciences.
I do a lot of sports of which my favorite one is soccer. Spending time with friends is always fun and making new ones aswell. I like good movies, good food and playing games. I don't yet play an instrument, but I got myself a guitar and will try to learn it on my own. . =)
The dormitory I live in is the home of 314 people from all over the world. There are many activities every week and we have a bar, so it never gets boring.
PHILOSOPHY
"Under the sky, under the heavens there is but one family. It just so happens man that people are different."
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
I offer you my bed and if you travel as a pair I can put another mattress on the floor of my room.
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
I've just hosted guests three times and been hosted once, but it was always a great experience and a lot of fun. So I'm curious about the journeys to come.
Interests
I have a big variety of interests, but here are some important ones:
- soccer (playing and watching)
- sports in general
- discovering new things and places
- cinema
- having fun with friends
- going to the pub with friends
- singing
Music, Movies, and Books
I like a lot of different music styles, but the music has to move me in a certain way. If it makes me dance or sing or if it makes me feel something, then I really like it. If you would ask me for my favourite artists right now, I would probably not have an answer, it just changes too often. But I'm totally open for any good music.
When it comes to movies it's about the same as with music. The only ones I don't like are splatter movies or senseless action movies.
I don't read many novels, but I love to read books or articles about things that catch my interest, like history, politics, technologies, etc.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
In October 2014 I met a guy in a train, when I was on my way back home to Freiburg. He didn't speak German, showed me his ticket and asked me, where he would have to get out. The ticket unfortunately was only for one station. Some women gave that ticket to him, as he had no money to buy one.
He was a refugee from Nigeria, who only had the clothes he was wearing, his wallet and a small jotter, with the phone numbers of his parents in Nigeria. He hadn't had any food the last 24 hours and had left his home, trying to reach Munich, where he was hoping to find a job in a camp for refugees.
I told him, that he would have to get out at the next station and asked him, where he wanted to go. When he told me, he wanted to get to Munich, I bought a ticket for him and took him with me to Freiburg, as it was too late, to get a train to Munich and he wouldn't have had a place to rest anywhere.
In Freiburg, me and my friends prepared him dinner, gave him a rucksack and new clothes and he slept in my room. The next morning, we had breakfast, I bought him a ticket to Munich and brought him to the bus.
Since that day I have never heard of him again, but I hope, he is safe now and has a place to sleep. =)
