About Me

Hi! I live with my husband and two dogs in Sacramento, CA. I work full time as a Financial Analyst at HP and go to school half time for English in the hopes that someday somebody will pay me for my writing.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I love to travel but I love the experience that comes with staying with locals, as opposed to soulless hotel chains that lose all authentic local flavor.

Interests

I love backpacking, rock climbing, hiking, and bicycling. I've been parasailing, rappelling, spelunking, snowboarding, and skiing. If it's active and outdoors, odds are good that I enjoy it.

I also love to read voraciously and write poetry, short stories, plays, or the bones of a novel.

Music, Movies, and Books

I'm a sucker for some good bluesy jazz, classical music, 90s music, and can at least tolerate or genuinely like almost everything in between.

The books I like are usually dystopian: The Giver, 1984, and the like. I also love weird fiction like Kafka's "The Metamorphosis," and David Wong's "This Book is Full of Spiders." Not to be outdone, there are worn copies of Thoreau's "Walden," Chaucer's "Canterbury Tales," and the Little House on the Prairie series in my bookshelf. I love a huge variety of literature.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Got married on Glacier Point in Yosemite National Park, the same park in which I backpacked tentless for a week in the wilderness near Waterwheel Falls.

Teach, Learn, Share

English is my forte, and I can even read and write a bit of old & middle English. My studies have included psychology, sociology, Spanish, photography, creative writing, and literature classes including: American, British, World, Multicultural Children's, and California literature.

For my day job I'm a Financial Analyst so that's a very different area of expertise that involves Excel spreadsheets, budget variances, and lots of Tylenol.

I'm also pretty awesome at starting a campfire with a flint striker and can set up a tent in less than ten minutes.
