About Me

"One's destination is never a place but rather a new way of looking at things." That's a quote from Henry Miller, and it describes my approach to travel.

I think empathy, humility, and open-mindedness are three of the most important traits people can have, and I do my best to live them.

Bear actually is my surname, by the way (not just a nickname).

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

To meet people. The best way to get to know a place is by talking with locals.

Interests

I like learning new things, so my interests are quite diverse. Some of my top interests are politics and history, and I'm always interested in learning about the history and cultures of places I visit.

I like to stay active and enjoy being outdoors, whether that's immersed in the wilderness or just taking a walk in a city.

Music, Movies, and Books

My favorite authors are Kurt Vonnegut and Gabriel Garcia Marquez, and I also read a lot of political and sociological nonfiction. I have a diverse range of films I like. If you happen to be a fan of Harold and Maude, What Ever Happened to Baby Jane, or Charlie Chaplin, I’m sure we’ll have something to talk about.

I have an eclectic taste in music, but my all-time top favorites are the Beatles, John Lennon’s and George Harrison’s solo music, and Bob Marley. Lately, I’ve been obsessed with St. Vincent.

Teach, Learn, Share

I can both teach my baking techniques and share the baked goods I make. (Baking seems to be one of my few tangible skills.)

What I Can Share with Hosts

I love baking and I’d be happy to bake for you! Pies, cookies, cakes, and more. I’m also a decent cook and could give that a whirl.
