About Me

Dear friends, moms, dads and anybody who reads me,

It is an honor to meet you all and at my most pleasure to be on couch surfing.

I go by Joe (as joseph!) but i have a korean name (Hyun Yong Kim). Ha! try to pronounce it! can you? :)

I am Korean, was born in Seoul, studied in California, Spent most of my youth years, have done years in Univ., and suddenly my patriotism dragged me to go back to Korea to join the Army!

Yes, Yes, Even though I was a medic, I've done my time watching over the fence on the 38th parallel, surveillance the North Korean soldiers who i can see just few hundred meters away.. (sounds bit serious, isn't it?) So it was two year of my life in the army! Other than that! I am currently a student!

Oh yeah, I major in Nursing. especially i want to specialize in Emergency field.
I can be quick, exact and delicate at the moment of urgency. It gives me a very high thrill when I can do something for the pains patients go thru.

as you see, I was a medic, and a nursing student! so what can u expect?
Hospitable, outgoing, courageous, love ppl, love animals, love children,
love to travel, love talking,

Just put love in front of any type of vocabulary, then it would describe me!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I actually didn't even know until few weeks ago this kind of network existed.
But I have many good friends in my town, he is Jeremy, a french math teacher in French international high school in Seoul. He hosts surfers occasionally, and I had a chance to meet his surfers!

We took them out often to explore the city, give them the tour of my country and of course, with lots and lots of booze. (lol)

Ever since then, I decided to go to Europe this summer! Jeremy invited me to his hometown near the Chalon-sur-Saône! but before that Im visiting Paris,
and after france, I will tour the Italy, and UK.

Oh no! let's get back to the subject- why CSing?

I love people. I love to talk with strangers. I want to see how we all do live on the other side of the world... and the pacific ocean..

I'm not talking about seeing the Eiffel Tower or Time Square or Famous museums in various areas but i mean the real life of people, true nature, and the philosophies of novel population.

So please help me, if you are willing to advise me on whatever we can share together. I will be more than happy, actually extremely at my most pleasure.

Interests

I am interested in public speaking. Though I am a nursing major, I've had many chances to go on several speech contests and have done successfully. I love to talk in front of many people. The chills from the anxiety makes me feel good and when i am on the stage it makes me a whole new person.

I love leisure sports, but my most favorite is to waterski, and wakeboarding.
I've worked at the water camps for 2 years with my colleagues and got pretty good at it. Anything with water and snow would be perfect for a wonderful day.

I love history, particularly western, such as ancient Roman's up to Caesar's death. I like to know how this world was built. and why we are living like who we are today.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I served as in Korean Army as a Medic sergeant.

I've done my duty for my country, protecting my family and friends, democracy and nature.

The most amazing experience was to save another soldier's life.
He was unconscious, no heart beat, no breath.
I've administered CPR immediately, EMB picked us up,
I did not stop until he got to the ER. and very luckly, I was able to save him the Golden time (last 5 mins chance of survival).

I don't know what killing feels like! but for sure I know this is better.

Teach, Learn, Share

I am good waterskier, also a good wakeboarder!
I wish i can enjoy water sports with everyone!

Also, I am a very good CPR performer. I even have a teaching certificate!
My host can learn how to save someone or family or friends' life when the time occurs!

What else? - Origami! I can play with paper really well! let me show you some of the paper arts i can do, even with a piece of a dollar bill!

What I Can Share with Hosts

Oh, definitely, I can teach my hosts basic nursing skills!

How to check someone's pulse, respiration, blood pressure, temp.

not only the vital signs but really helpful intervention in the time of crisis!

Oh sorry, this is about what i can share?
- everything. my knowledge, my cultural backgrounds,,,,,,
but most importantly, if you let me know in advance, some korean booze of any type for sure...!!
