About Me

Irish sounding, Asian looking, Italian living in Manchester.

Currently writing a book about a man and a dog who saved each from the war.

Big fan of couches. In my lifetime I have been incredibly fortunate to have had the opportunity and pleasure to sleep on couches all over the world — sometimes to enjoy the company of fun and exciting people in new and surprising places, other times because I didn't have a home and friends took me in. In any case, I will always be grateful for the couches that gave me comfort and friendship over the years.

I have recently completed my Master's in Journalism, and work at an agency reporting on groundbreaking journa- wait, no, that's not what I do at all. Unfortunately the industry is not as it once was, and most days I write human interest stories for the tabloids.

In my short life I have been fortunate enough to have lived all around the world, as my dad was an airline manager. I lived in Africa for nearly ten years, visiting every African country while I was there, and lived on every continent bar Oceania.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I used to couch surf before an app existed, and found it to be an enriching and unpredictable experience. It's an opportunity to share stories with people from cultures spanning the entire world. I believe the greatest tragedy in life would be to experience only your culture in your lifetime, we owe it to ourselves to discover as much of the world as we can. Couchsurfing allows us to do so one couch at a time.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I uncovered the exploitation of Nepalese students by a Malaysian university. They were lured into Malaysia with the promise of a job on cruises in a cruise ship management course that wasn't accredited nor real. Their passports were withheld illegally, and they were made to work at bars across the country's capital city Kuala Lumpur in what were described as 'indefinite internships'. None of the students, who'd invested their life savings to provide their impoverished families a better future, were to ever get the job they were promised. Instead, they were forced into a quasi slave trade, where they worked 60-70 hours a week on measly, and inhumane wages.

After months of investigations, interviews, and research — I decided to go undercover posing as a Nepalese student to confirm the lies and deceit. They told me the same lies they told the unsuspecting students.

I suppose it's a toss up between that and last week I managed to put extra tooth paste I'd mistakenly pressed out (I overestimated how much tooth paste I required for this particular brushing session) back into the tube.
