About Me
CURRENT MISSION
to see the world, one guest-room ceiling at a time
ABOUT ME
For the purposes of couchsurfing I'm just an inquisitive, honest and outgoing guy, but you'll get to know me better if you stay with me. I first couchsurfed in 2008 when I got stranded in an unfamiliar place. That was around the same time I started two years of living on a veggie-oil-powered schoolbus and plunged into environmental activism.
I currently live in a 100-square-foot house in the middle of a wild blackberry patch on a small farm adjacent to the New River Gorge.
PHILOSOPHY
"The fairest life ever lived on earth was that of a poor man, and all its beauty came from grand thoughts, not grand things." - inside cover of an old USDA book for farmers
“Perfection is achieved, not when there is nothing more to add, but when there is nothing left to take away.” – Antoine de Saint-Exupery
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
I have a queen bed and a hammock (your choice) and am happy to accommodate 1-2 human guests and a dog or two (more, if you're camping). There's 70,000 acres of national park right here, I'd love to take you on a hike!
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
I've gone hiking in the snow with traveling musicians from Michigan, gotten a taste of home staying with West Virginians in alien cities, and had hilarious adventures exploring new places with new-found friends thanks to CS. Every experience has felt serendipitous and preordained; I'm so glad to be part of this community.
Interests
the quieter side of the outdoors, music, old things, the whole life cycle of food from growing, cooking/eating, to composting...and travel of course. it's starting to seem that the more time I spend doing anything, the more I enjoy it.

Music, Movies, and Books
movies: I don't go to the movies much, but I like documentaries and film-festival-type stuff.
music: simple or symphonic. I love tight harmonies, banjo, cello and mandolin.
books: I particularly enjoy magical realism and Russian lit. The People of Paper, wow. and Murakami can predict my future.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
I discover something amazing or beautiful every day.
Teach, Learn, Share
my family has a rich history of storytelling, I'm likely to share a few. I like to cook and share (vegetarian) recipes. tell me about your city and I'll tell you about mine.
