About Me

Have spent much of the last 10 years travelling and enjoying people's company around the world. Now I'm rooted in Bath doing a PhD so time to give back

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

My favourite part of travelling has always been meeting local people and sharing stories and this seemed the best platform for that. Mostly benefited from others' generosity so far but hoping to host more now that I have a fixed address

Interests

I have a slight obsession with compiling lists and staring at maps of the world for hours on end, but I'm also interested in most things that people like to chatter about, particularly music, film, politics, philosophy, the world, travelling experiences etc.

I've been trying hard to battle my addiction to football and mostly succeeded in ridding myself of the need to pop into an Irish bar to check the score when I'm in a far away land but I was more than happy to satisfy the football-crazy monks of Myanmar when pushed into a conversation.

Music, Movies, and Books

Genuinely eclectic music taste, been through nearly every kind of phase and come out the other end liking everything.

I don't usually like big budget American blockbusters, but I can't keep my eyes off big budget American TV. When I'm not working or travelling I'm often glued to some series. Game of Thrones, House of Cards, Boardwalk Empire, Breaking Bad recently with Sopranos or The Wire my favourite for older TV series. Would love any foreign film recommendations

I've been mostly studying recently, but usually got a fiction and non-fiction book on the go.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Not sure about this one but definitely leaving the UK to live in China was the best decision of my life

Teach, Learn, Share

I used to love practising my French / Chinese /Spanish but fear all are still very basic now that I'm rusty. Same goes for playing guitar but I'm sure I can be persuaded to sing a song once I've had a couple.
