About Me

My name is Joel Jimenez. I am originally from Guadalajara, Mexico, but I have been living in Las Vegas for about 10 years. I studied biology in college and will be starting medical school in the fall. I haven’t travelled much outside the US and Mexico, but I am super excited to start my traveling journeys and meet new people. I also love trying different foods from all around the world, and I am willing to try absolutely anything.

I will be taking my first solo trip to Central Europe this summer, and I am super excited to explore the world, learn about different cultures, try new cuisines, and make new friends!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I am on Couchsurfing because I want to learn about different cultures. Being from Mexico and the US, I have experienced very different cultures and I would love to keep exploring the cultures around the world. I love meeting new people and making friends from all around the world.

Interests

I enjoy playing and watching sports. My favorite sports are soccer, football, hockey, and basketball. I like the outdoors and try to go hiking as much as I can. I play the guitar and like to go to concerts.

Music, Movies, and Books

I listen to all types of music ranging from mariachi to hip hop depending on my mood. Most of the time though I listen to The Lumineers, Passenger, and Hozier. When it comes to movies, I like movies that make me feel and understand what the characters are feeling. My favorite author is Atul Gawande and my favorite book is When Breath Becomes Air by Paul Kalinithi.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Uhm, I haven’t done anything exciting but being accepted to medical school is definitely a big accomplishment for me.

Teach, Learn, Share

I am super open minded to learning about anything and everything. I am a biology student and a Spanish speaker so I can share some of my knowledge there.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I am not the best cook, but I can definitely make so of the typical Mexican dishes my mom has taught me!
