About Me

People say I think too much. That I'm too quiet and they aren't sure If I'm rude or I don't hear them because I'm in my own world. I've been called a "Pelleteur de nuage"- a shoveler of clouds. Full disclosure it means an impractical idealist. I'm said to be relaxed, I hope not too relaxed, and very willing to try new things and make mistakes. I'm hoping to make many mistakes if that is what it takes to learn a great deal.

GOALS: Immediate: Spend my summer completely outside Oklahoma. Future: Peace Corps or similar work. Live so that the could-be cortex of my possible past histories will quiet down and let me enjoy my tofurkey in peace.

PHILOSOPHILISMS: We can be content alone, but I imagine that the purpose we scrape out of life is derived from each other. In the unecessarily quoted words of William H. Seward (the man who arranged the purchase of Alaska), Jesus, and what is surely a fair amount of folk: "Love one another."

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

For a genuine experience. To listen to stories, to share a few, and maybe make one.

Interests

Creating new music, imitating great art, and pretending to think profound thoughts. Drinking tea, attempting to cook, and writing run on sentences. Climbing rocks, sitting on rocks, and nudging them down steep slopes.

Music, Movies, and Books

If one names little known artists and works, few will understand. If one lists known and respected names it may not prove taste so much as hunger.

Directors: Kubrick, Tarantino, Nolan, Miyazaki, Wess Anderson, David Fincher, Paul Thomas Anderson

Music: I'm as pretentious as the next quasi-intellect, but if it's played with soul, I respect it.

Books: The Better Angels of Our Nature, East of Eden, Catch-22, War and Peace, The Forever War, the Foundation Trilogy, Johnny Got His Gun, Blood Meridian, The Sea Wolf, If on a Winter's Night a Traveler, The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier and Clay, Crime and Punishment , The Waves (Woolf).

Authors: Kurt Vonnegut, Douglas Adams, Tolkien, George R. R. Martin, Faulkner, Steinbeck

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I'm working on it.

Teach, Learn, Share

TEACH: Oh man, the best I can do is spout off cheap interpretations of precious literary classics, fling around half-researched critiques or theories surrounding economic development.

LEARN: I'm hungry to learn. Whether it be cooking, sustainable farming or construction, quantum physics, language, international politics, religion, architecture, design, psychology, programming, music creation, bicycles or climbing! I can't say I love it all because I know so little. I've love all I have met.

SHARE: I'm a pretty good whistler, and on a good day I can improvise songs.

What I Can Share with Hosts

Laughter, comfortable silence, uncomfortable truths, and subsequently louder laughter.

I'm willing to assist with cleaning or anything around the abode to help out.
