JOEL TORTUL
(Pianist, arranger and compositor)

Joel Tortul was born in 1986 in Fuentes, Santa Fe, Argentina. His repertoire includes Tango and Argentine Folklore songs, as well as his own compositions with a new style within the popular Argentine music genders.
He has been developed as a pianist learning from exceptional musicians from Argentina such as Juan Carlos Silvera, Octavio Brunetti, Juan Carlos Cirigliano and Alexander Panizza among others.
For more than 15 years, he has shared stages and has done national and international tours with outstanding artists such as Jorge Fandermole, Rodolfo Cholo Montironi, Andrés Ibarburu, Franco Luciani, María Volonté, Noelia Moncada, Mariana Cayón, Ildo Patriarca, Abel Rogantini, Walter Castro, Cristian Gustafsson, Leonel Capitano, Aldana Moriconi, Soledad Pastorutti, Pablo Agri among others.
Performances
He has performed on some of the most important stages throughout his native country: Cosquín Folk Festival (from 2005 to 2014), Baradero Festival (from 2003 to 2006), Buenos Aires Tango Festival (2012, 2014 and 2016) and Encuentro Metropolitano de Tango Rosario.
Abroad in Chile at Festival Folclórico de Punta Arenas and Seminario latinoamericano de Osorno (2005 and 2011).
In Brazil at the concert cycle of the Uberlandia Association Pro - Music and the Third International Tango Festival in Campinas, Limeira and Piracicaba (2010).
In Cuba at the Fourth Festival of Tango in La Havana and "Centro Pablo de la Torriente Brau" (2012).
In Ecuador at Tango Festival in Quito (2013).
In Mexico at “III y IV Festival de Tango en el DF” and “Festival latinoamericano del estado de Tamaulipas” (2013).
In Czech Republic at Bienal KAFKA-BORGES in Praga (2016).
In Spain at Festival Internacional de Jazz de Barcelona (2016).
At the Europe tour with Leonel Capitano in 2017 in the following countries: Italy, Germany France, England, Luxembourg, Scotland, Czech Republic and Holland.
In China, in Nanchang, Pingxiang, Wuhan, Nanning y Badou with the London Arte Chamber Orchestra with the director Fabricio Brachetta (2017).
Discography
In 2007, he recorded his first CD called "IMPULSO DE TANGO" made up of piano solos and edited by CNR RECORDS.
In 2009, he formed "JOEL TORTUL TRIO", a trio composed by Daniel Ferreyra on bass and Paul Rodriguez on drums and percussion. After over a year of performing around the country, they recorded a live CD called "PUNTO VIVO", composed of tango and folklore songs that show a new esthetic as well as a whole new acoustic freedom.
In 2012, he went on a tour with Leonel Capitano to different cities and cultural centers of Cuba, where they recorded a live CD called "VIVO EN CUBA".
Awards
First place at Pre-Baradero Festival and stand-out artist in 2003.
First place at Pre-Consquin in 2005 under the category ‘instrumental soloist’.
In August 2011, "JOEL TORTUL TRIO" was declared of Cultural Interest by the Senate of Argentina.
Early in 2013, he put in a performance called “ARGENTINA EN EL PIANO” at Cosquin which consisted of a tribute to Argentine pianists. This masterpiece shows not only his talent as a performer but also his capability of keeping up with the main figures of the music from Argentina.
By the end of 2015, Joel formed his own quartet composed by Mariano Sayago on bass, Martín Tessa on guitar and Alfredo Tosto on drums and percussion.I
n 2016, he took part of the tribute paid to Horario Salgán for his 100-year life being part of “Celebracion Salgan” with 18 Argentine pianists.
