About Me

I was born in Seattle but grew up in Las Vegas. Yes, that's right. There are people who are actually from Las Vegas. After graduating high school I headed to the big city of Los Angeles to attend the University of Southern California, where I got my undergraduate degree in political science and environmental studies and my graduate degree in communications management. From LA I headed to Flagstaff where I spent two years in an environmental conservation corps as part of an AmeriCorps program. My love of the environment and this beautiful world we inhabit was turned up to the max (yes, turned up to 11) after my experiences in this program. Next it was up to Billings, Montana for work and the worst winter on record. An opportunity arose and I relocated to Fort Collins, Colorado, or one of the greatest places ever! I worked very hard and excessively, saving everything I made in order to fulfill a lifetime dream of seeing the world, something I'm currently in the process of doing!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I think it's an absolutely great way to meet new (hopefully open-minded) people from all over the world and all walks of life. I love swapping travel and life stories. Also, at the end of the day there is no guide, list, or review that can replace the knowledge and direction of a local.

Interests

Music, nature/hiking, delicious food, walking, going to the movies (something about the smell of popcorn, the big screen, sharing an experience with strangers), traveling, thinking about the reasons behind people's actions and beliefs, craft beer, concerts, Saturday Night Live, gelato.

Music, Movies, and Books

I don't know of enough words to describe my passion for music. I think it's something that ripples beautifully across every culture and society on this planet. I love most types of music, with the exception of country (sorry, it's not personal). For the sake of space, I'll just say my absolute favorite is classic rock (or just the glorious music years of the 60's and 70's). Led Zeppelin, The Rolling Stones, CCR, Aerosmith, Jimi, Janis, Bob Dylan, David Bowie, The Beatles, The Kinks, Joni Mitchell, Cream, and the list could go on for days. There's also something about that synth pop of the 80's that always puts a smile on my face.

I like too many movies to list and am down to watch anything but my favorite is Almost Famous. My geeky side would mention the newest X-Men films and, of course, The Lord of The Rings trilogy. Always enjoy a horror and love the old Hollywood films from the 40's and 50's.

Books are so wonderful! In fact, when I was in the 3rd grade (around 8 years old) and we were asked what we wanted to be when we grow up for the yearbook, I wrote bookstore owner. I'll read anything Stephen King writes. I dig the satire of Kurt Vonnegut. Love books with some element of history and those that delve into the human/social psyche. I am currently making my way through Chuck Palahniuk's bibliography.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I was a contestant on The Price is Right (big US game show)! It's actually a pretty interesting/hilarious story and is best told in person. But I can say I won his and her scuba gear, an atrocious dinette set, and a nice game table. Hugging Bob Barker was the real prize, though.

Teach, Learn, Share

I think one of the purposes of life is to be constantly learning and I welcome anything new. I love to share good conservation and laughter.
