About Me

CURRENT MISSION

hmmmmmm

ABOUT ME

I've just moved to NYC after a stint as a film festival programmer in the Pacific NW. I've been wandering around the city, exploring the arty movie theaters and cheap ethnic foods (20 "yummy cakes" for a dollar? Don't mind if I do!). Sometimes I bake pies.

PHILOSOPHY

Everything in moderation, including moderation.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I have a nice little apartment with a view of a park. No couch right now, but when I get one, you'll be the first to know! In the meantime, I'm happy to meet up and show you around the city.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I had an incredible time couchsurfing in Germany during summer 2009. People were so warm, trusting, and friendly, showing me aspects of their city that I never would have found otherwise. I have yet to host anybody, but am certainly looking forward to demonstrating the same level of hospitality that I've received.

Interests

Walking long distances, films (all kinds), karaoke, a whole bunch of writers and musicians, books about science for non-technically-minded people, whatever food you put in front of me.

Music, Movies, and Books

Books: Nathaniel West, David Foster Wallace (RIP), Flannery O'Connor, many more.

Movies: So many. Chinatown, Rois et Reine, Picnic at Hanging Rock, McCabe & Mrs Miller, The Killing of a Chinese Bookie, Annie Hall, horror movies, 1930s sex comedies...

Music: My favorite song these days is "Bitters End" by Roxy Music, and my favorite single moment in a song is probably the way Ray Davies sings 'vodka on the rocks' in "Alcohol" by The Kinks.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I've seen some pretty amazing people on the New York subway since moving here.

Teach, Learn, Share

I can recite Donald Barthalme's short story 'The School' by heart, and also Lewis Carroll's 'Jabberwocky' at hyperspeed.

Countries I’ve Visited

Denmark, Germany, India, Italy, Nepal, Switzerland

Countries I’ve Lived In

Turkey, United States
