About Me

Currently on a 5 week, 7000+ mile road trip around the US with my dog finishing my #50by30 goal. Read all about our journey on my blog at www.joepurnell.com. We’re mostly staying in the small pop up camper I’m pulling behind my car so we’re always looking for a good, safe place to set up for the night. Open to suggestions for things to see and do in your area, friends to grab a beer with, informal tour guides, or hosts if you’ve got space.

I get a lot of requests, so I have to be selective. Having a recently created account without references is not an automatic "No". Having a blank profile is.

I'm a nerd who loves to travel, listen to music, eat, and try new experiences. In 2014 I fulfilled a long term dream of mine and moved to Colorado from Pennsylvania. I left my job, packed a truck, grabbed the dog, bought a house, and moved west! I’m all settled in now and am excited to open my home to other surfers.

I'm currently Consultant for a big 4 accounting firm, and I'd be happy to talk to you about how I got from Air Traffic to Software over a beer. I love to go out, have a good time, and meet new people, but am always down for a relaxed night in.

I know this isn't facebook, but if you wanna get to know me a little better, feel free to add me on facebook and cruise around my profile.

PHILOSOPHY

Having a plan is good, but you can't get upset if it doesn't happen exactly as you imagined it.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I've met some amazing people across the globe thanks to couch surfing. I always look forward to traveling - not only because I'm seeing new places, but also because I get to meet some new Surfers. I'm happy I can now open my home to other surfers.

Interests

Things I do that make me happy:
Being outside (Hiking, Camping, Skiing, walking the dog)
Throwing a frisbee
Having an intelligent conversation (politics, religion, ethics, current events, travels)
Having a moronic conversation
Listening to music - HUGELY into music, and music of all types, love finding new jams
Music Festivals! (Any fellow Bonnaroovians out there?)
Singing loudly, even when I don't know the words

Traveling:
I have a goal to his all continents and US States by the time I'm 30. I’m currently on a 5 week, 7000+ mile road trip around the US with my dog to complete this goal.

I'm also a bit of a nerd when it comes to technology & am also into aviation (particularly ATC). Recently have been getting into home automation.

Music, Movies, and Books

I listen to some of the most random mixes ever... everything from blue grass and folk to EDM or Pop and just about everything in between. Not huge on hard core rap or country, but am cool with some of each. Really depends.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Can't limit it to one:
-Scuba diving between 2 tectonic plates (Silfra in Iceland)
-Skydiving 13,000 ft (working on my license now)
-Bungy Jumping 440 ft
-Repelled down a castle wall in Wales
-Gave a presentation on youth philanthropy to government officials in Russia

Teach, Learn, Share

Teach? - I can teach you that pit bulls are NOT scary dogs. I can teach you a ridiculous amount about consumer technology, business applications, business automation. I can also tell you fun facts about aviation and air traffic control.

Learn? - I love learning. Languages aren't my strong point, but I AM trying to learn some programming languages. Ya know, something quick and light that you can show me over a beer!

Share? - Bonnaroo - For those unaware, its an amazing music festival held in Tennessee on a farm every June. The mindset of those that attend Roo and those who use CS are too similar for more members of the two to not be more aware of one another.

What I Can Share with Hosts

If I'm crashing at your place I would be more than happy to contribute around the house by cooking, paying you compliments for 30 seconds straight, doing an interpretive dance of what I believe the creation of Toast is like, make you some dinner, or whatever else I can do to say thank you. A random side note, I'm hardcore allergic to cats, so if you have one and its not listed in your profile, please let me know! And of course, THANK YOU!
