Overview
About Me
Born and raised in Dallas, TX, at 19 I decided to serve a mission for the Mormon church. I was sent to Sao Paulo, Brazil where I became a part of local Brazilian community and spent all day, every day socializing with the Brazilian people. It was there that I developed a love for traveling and getting to know other cultures.
I returned to the USA when I was 21 and pursued an education at Brigham Young University. I have a passion for using technology to help us have better lives, and ended up graduating in 2011 with a Masters degree in Information Systems.
I had two job offers as I was exiting BYU - 1 was in my hometown, Dallas, and the other was in Portland. Although the salary in Dallas was significantly more, I chose to come to Portland to 1) stay away from my parents and 2) meet laid back, progressive people.
The Mormon church was a prominent part of the first quarter century of life, but I've since moved on. I didn't feel their ideals and principles were aligned with my own.
After graduating I moved to Portland where I met some very rad people and my passion for travel, backpacking, and meeting new people was renewed. In Portland I realized that I wanted to do some long-term travel, so I researched all I could, tried new things, and saved up for it.
After becoming bored of the daily grind in Portland I decided to hop on my bicycle and biked at a leisurely pace down the west coast to San Diego. There I met a French woman on Couchsurfing and we hit it off and traveled for a year together after that -- starting in France, then going to Southeast Asia, then ending up road tripping around Australia.
After a year and a half I grew tired of traveling and decided to have a "normal life" for a bit. The French woman and I parted ways and I started a new life in Denver, CO where I worked, climbed, and saved up to do it all again.
After a year of working, I left the USA and am currently bike touring through Europe! I am excited to meet new people, learn new cultures, and try new foods along the way!
