About Me
CURRENT MISSION
To bridge the gap between my dreams and reality.
ABOUT ME
My name is Joey Clarkson; I am a singer/songwriter. I want to travel the world, and to see and learn from as many different cultures as I can.
I have ridiculously cold feet. Socks just dont do it for me. Ants seriously disgust me. Despite how I would like myself to react, I am quick to fall into things, and usually jump in with all of my heart. I really don't like butter, mayonnaise or sour cream. I have a strong circle of friends, and family who mean the world to me. Even though I adore it, ice cream makes my tummy hurt. I love meeting new people, learning new things and teaching other people whatever I can offer.
I love being outdoors, and I am a firm believer that everyone should take their shoes off more often when they are playing outside; shoes tend to get in the way of better things.
PHILOSOPHY
I like to think that every little bit counts.
Spread the smiles, hug a stranger, and try; even when it seems pointless.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
I am hoping to make friends with some ridiculously cool individuals from all over the world.
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
I have had the pleasure of hosting many surfers, and being a surfer many times myself. I have made crazy awesome life time friends because of this website :)
Interests
I love everything to do with the performing arts. I enjoy my job, which is instructing vocal, and beginner’s guitar lessons, as well as musical theatre and introduction to drama classes. I love exploring. Playing sports for fun with my friends. Kayaking. Going dancing. Hiking. I could go on for a very long time about everything that I like, but it is faster to say that I am usually interested in trying things at least once.

Music, Movies, and Books
I like almost any genre of music. I don’t think there is such a thing as a bad genre of music. Some genre’s just have an over abundance of terrible artists, so I tend not to listen to much country, rap or mainstream pop. I do enjoy supporting local bands and artists, as well as Canadian artists and try to scout out, listen to and promote as many as I can. I love going to shows, concerts and music festivals.
When it comes to movies, I will watch pretty much anything. Like music, I find that any genre of movie can be great, but not many are. I just watched Pirate Radio with my parents and highly enjoyed it.
I go through phases where I read a lot for a few months, and then I don’t read anything for a while. Right now I haven’t read much in a long time. Any suggestions?
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
About two weeks after the disaster struck, I headed a fundraiser with friends and community members for Habitat for Humanity’s earthquake relief fund for Haiti. We managed to organize over 20 different bands and solo performers to donate their time to put on a 2 day mini music festival, as well as a silent auction that had over 150 items donated from local businesses for the cause. The fundraiser went shockingly well and between the donations at the door, concession, beer garden and silent auction, we managed to raise over $15,000 for the cause before the cutoff date for donations to be doubled by the Canadian Government. The thing that I find completely amazing is that everything for the mini music festival was 100% donated. Whether it was venue, services, product, money or time; everyone had something they could give. It was a true community effort.
Teach, Learn, Share
I'm pretty ok at writing music, playing the guitar and singing if you're interested in learning anything about that. I can also knit a pretty mean tam.
