About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To create community based around good people, good food, good music, singing, dancing and merrymaking.

ABOUT ME

I love light, music, and unexpected laughter. I really enjoy people and am intrigued by how complex we are. I love forging deep connections with friends, new and old. I love creating with others, sitting by campfires, having the smell permeate all my clothes and hair.

I love making photos of my own and learning from other amazing artists.

I freelance as a photographer and videographer.

I spent a year and a half in South Africa as a Peace Corps Volunteer. I was working on water and sanitation issues in rural communities. I am grateful for all my travel opportunities because of all the doors it has opened up to new opportunities and new relationships for me.

I've been nomadic the past decade - after coming home from Africa, I bounced around from NY, to Boston and DC, did stints in Montreal, Guadalajara, Argentina, Idaho and most recently, Portland. I've relied on an open heart, an open mind, and the kindness of strangers and friends throughout the past few years. It's been a beautiful journey so far, with all the ups and downs that comes with just living and being.

PHILOSOPHY

My most basic personal philosophy is simply "Do unto others..."

I also like these quotes.

"Show me your friends, and I'll show you your future."

"Whatever you can do, or dream you can, begin it. Boldness has genius, magic, and power in it. Begin it now." -Johann Wolfgang von Goethe

"Don't trust your money. Trust your life." -Terrence at Tumelong

"I don't worry about how I sound when I sing. I worry about how the music makes me feel." -The Folks from Soweto

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I have been hosted a number of times, and am anxious to pay back the kindness I have been shown. Now I'm in search of a house that will be open to the idea.

The broader the community, the broader the network, the more happy people come into our lives. I can stand by that.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I've had great CS experiences in Portland, OR, Austin, TX, and all throughout Argentina. My friends from college have hosted other surfers over time, and when I've been visiting simultaneously, the floodgates of fun open up and the nite is lost to revelry and shenanigans in the most seriously delightful way.

Interests

Photography, musical jam sessions, hiking, biking, camping, magic, games invented on the spot, joy rides, dance parties, star gazing, star tripping (you'll have to ask about this one), delicious home cooked meals shared among many, camp fires...

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

One amazing thing I've done that I am proud of?

During my time as a Peace Corps Volunteer in South Africa, I helped provide a community with a clean water system and toilets, where there previously had been nothing. I'll always put that in the "win" column for myself.

Also, on a more travel-oriented note, when I first glimpsed Iguazu Falls, I just started laughing, because I didn't think it was real and couldn't believe my eyes. It blew my mind, how massive and surreal the falls were.

Teach, Learn, Share

A little bit of magic goes a long way in a country where you don't speak the language. It transcends language barriers very quickly. Just be careful no one mistakes you for a witch.

Countries I’ve Visited
