About Me

Hey peeps, my name is Johanna, I am 23 and am studying cultural sciences. What has always interested me the most are people, how they work, what they think and do and why. I reckon I spend about 60 % of my day thinking about that stuff so yeah, in combination with my traveling frequency I guess my field of studies is pretty accurate. I dig respect, honesty and kindness, standing up for what one thinks and believes. Intolerance is a no-go. My spirit animal is Blues (the music, not the mood), I love talking until dawn and being passionate about things you love.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I love to travel and thus do so a lot. Recently (since I had lots of time after I finished school) I found that I am very much into longer stays at one place, to get to know habitants and really plunge into the atmosphere and living culture of a place. I lived in Rome for six weeks last year for instance and traveled around Cambodia and Vietnam for a month last spring and that, again, turned out to be the right way of traveling for me. It often disppoints me when I find people, especially my age, to not be able to see certain places because of the finances so I think couchsurfing is a beautiful way of being able to see places and at the same time getting to know people there. My family and I often hosted people from around the world in the past and I like it a lot to show people around "my world". Still, I also had to learn that it can be difficult at times to not impose on people and let them have their freedom as well which is something I myself find extremely important when staying with somebody. Yes, I do want to get to know people and establish relationships but I also want to have time for myself.

Interests

I want to learn as much as I can from other people (how would you evolve otherwise?) Thus, good and long conversations in the evening with a bottle of wine maybe are something I find very beautiful and satisfying. Topicwise, you can talk to me about pretty much everything except maybe local politics and economies ;) What I prefer though are things like philosophy, religion, general political questions but its not like you cant talk to me about commonplace shit as well;) I'm very much into pretty much all "acknowledged" forms of socalizing, say dining, having a coffee, dancing, parties, strolling around parks, then sit and listen to some street musician.

Music, Movies, and Books

Musicwise I am pretty unspecific - any and everything that catches me in a way, let it be Jazz, Soul, Techno, Electro, Oldies, Hard Rock, Classic, Country or anything you name. Same with movies and books. I'm a rather emotional person (incase you didn't get that out of the above passages) so whatever touches me or brings up sentiments adequate for the respective moment is fine, whether it's flat, stupid entertainment or a wellmade political thriller.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Amazing...such a wonderfully unspecified word ;) I lived in the US for a year doing a year abroad but I wouldnt call that amazing...really kinda makes me doubt myself a little bit right now that I have to think about this one for so long. I think the six weeks in Rome were pretty amazing in so far as that my friend and I just wanted to live la dolce vita for six weeks and managed that really well ;)

Teach, Learn, Share

My personal perception is that people always teach and shape each other in any way they may get into contact with each other. I think it is so incredibly important to seek conversation with people from other backgrounds. In school, you may learn what tolerance means in theory but you won't really get it until you step outside your door.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I have a lot of stories to tell and a huge desire for those of other people. I behave responsibly and always want to give something back, so no worries about cleaning, noisiness or anything of that kind.

So far so good, if you made it through this novel I think you can put up with me ;) Looking forward to meeting you!
