About Me

Hi, I'm Johanna: friendly, open-minded, and curious about other people. I love to learn and try new things! And I'm a listener rather than a talker.

I live with David (https://www.couchsurfing.com/people/david_h), our son Einar born February 2015 and David's 18-year-old son Ville. Ville stays with us every other week.

David and I first met at a Couchsurfing meetup back in 2008 (actually on 2008-08-08 – lucky date!), so you could say that little Einar is a real CS baby!

We welcome guests with or without children!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I primarily host people, but I've also surfed some couches myself. Occasionally I also attend CS meetups.

I've also been featured in a newspaper article about CouchSurfing.

Interests

I'm a fan of German-style board games like Ticket to Ride and Carcassonne. I also love music, movies, drawing, swimming and general exercise. I'm actually interested in a whole lot of different things. Right now I'm learning sign language, Spanish and Mandarin Chinese.

Since I had Einar I've become very interested in so-called attachment parenting: babywearing, baby-led weaning, baby signing – stuff like that.

Music, Movies, and Books

My all-time favourite movie has got to be Paris, Texas. Some other ones I really like are The Lives of Others and Grave of the Fireflies.

A favourite book – maybe Death in Venice (Thomas Mann), Jane Eyre (Charlotte Brontë), The Remains of the Day (Kazuo Ishiguro), or the only book that's ever made me cry: Roots (Alex Haley). Or anything with Sam Vimes in it. I love a good family chronicle and tend to remember and treasure the overall atmosphere of a book rather than plot details.

I'm into artists like Neil Young, Carole King, Ella Fitzgerald, and Morrissey. I like a lot of jazz and Swedish indie. I am also a long time fan of '80s R.E.M. and '90s Radiohead. I like a bit of everything and would love to hear some music from your country. We use Spotify at home so a search phrase or playlist goes a long way with us (whereas we'll soon be out of CD players).

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

One: Lying on my back watching the stars on a clear winter night in a small Swedish town. That's a thing I miss, living in the city: clear skies!

One: Travelling through China – in 2009 by myself and in 2010 with David, Ville, and Ville's mother.

One: Having Seoraksan National Park in South Korea all to myself on a crisp spring morning.

One: Living in Xiamen – the best expat city in China – for ten months between August 2011 and June 2012!

One: Riding Journey to the Center of the Earth at Tokyo DisneySea. I love a good roller coaster!

One: Travelling through Mexico for four months between November 2015 and March 2016!

One: Finally deciding to try for a baby even though the thought of giving birth scared me like words cannot explain. In the end, Einar's delivery was really smooth and only took 2,5 hours!

Teach, Learn, Share

I'd like you to teach me some words in your language! Or, really, anything about your country: I was never interested in geography or other cultures before I started hosting people, so I have a lot of catching up to do! ;)

It'd be cool if you could teach me how to do something, for example how to
- tie a baby wrap into a rucksack!
- hand-pull noodles!
- play mahjong!
- cook a tasty meal from your country!

What I Can Share with Hosts

I'll happily share what I know about Stockholm and the Swedish language and culture, or about any of the things mentioned in my profile. If you're into music I can put on some good songs by Swedish artists.

If you're into web development I can give you an introduction to Drupal CMS.
