About Me

Hi there!
Thanks for stopping by! I'm Johanna, a mexican-american girl from kansas currently living in southern Germany.

I've been living here for the last 2 years and I'm currently a Ethnology and Spanish student and portrait photographer. I love adventuring, and all things culture (which is why I chose studying ethnology, of course!) I am deeply moved by hearing people's stories. I would consider myself pretty laid back and love to exchange ideas, experiences, and food! I love the sun, writing, reading, the sea, and a good cup of coffee. :)

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I can't think of a lot that is much better than people opening their homes to help travelers to intentionally make connections with each other.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Leaving at 18 y/o for a year of solo travel around Europe, and then a year later leaving to travel solo around Asia for 6 months. Hanging out with nuns. Living in a meditation center. Hitchhiking halfway across Myanmar by myself. Motorbiking to a monkey forest in Bali. Sitting on top of sand dunes in the Sahara desert watching the moon rise. Accidentally parting with a prince in a random club in LA?? Paragliding in India. Camping next to the sea in the middle of nowhere, Louisiana. Being a big sister. Falling in love.

Teach, Learn, Share

“This is what you shall do; Love the earth and sun and the animals, despise riches, give alms to every one that asks, stand up for the stupid and crazy, devote your income and labor to others, hate tyrants, argue not concerning God, have patience and indulgence toward the people, take off your hat to nothing known or unknown or to any man or number of men, go freely with powerful uneducated persons and with the young and with the mothers of families, read these leaves in the open air every season of every year of your life, re-examine all you have been told at school or church or in any book, dismiss whatever insults your own soul, and your very flesh shall be a great poem and have the richest fluency not only in its words but in the silent lines of its lips and face and between the lashes of your eyes and in every motion and joint of your body." -Walt Whitman

What I Can Share with Hosts

I would be happy to teach you about culture in the USA, Mexico, and share stories. Oh, and I'm a photographer. If someone would like to learn something about that, I would be happy to share!
