About Me
I regret to post that John die 6 December 2017. He enjoyed hosting couchsurfers and would be sorry to not be able to open his doors and his life to couchsurfers new and returning. Thank you to all of you who enriched his last year.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing
I am a lawyer, with my own law firm. I am actively involved in many volunteer groups, and used to be an officer in the naval reserves. I enjoy travelling, reading, writing, music and art, theatre and concerts, good food, nature, gardens, animals, architecture, movies, history, politics and more.
I spend a lot of my time working. I enjoy travelling, but do not get as much opportunity as I would like. I used to stay in hotels, then was introduced to hostels. I realise that hostels and couch surfing is a far better way to meet people. I would like to meet people from other countries, that I have been to or would like to visit one day. I feel I can learn about their countries while showing them something of mine.
Interests
I enjoy music, theatre, the arts, museums, astronomy, movies, nature and animals (I used to have a horse), books, food, massage, kayaking, walking, jogging, archery, paintball and lasertag, mountains, beaches and the sea, politics, history and of course travel.
Music, Movies, and Books
I like classical, folk, folk rock, and easy listening music. I also like sci-fi, drama, James Bond, horror and comedy movies. I read many books, and prefer classics (Shakespeare, Dickens, etc), sci fi, biographies, histories and poetry.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Visited Petra, the "Rose City". Also went on a three and a half week trip to Europe, with absolutely no planning or prior reservations whatsoever.
Spent a damp night in a life raft, and then swam to be hoisted out of the water by a helicopter, as part of naval training. On other occasions helped put out fires and fought floods in ship simulators.
Teach, Learn, Share
English, history and architecture of Auckland and New Zealand, music and theatre scene, museums, parks, etc. Islands of the Hauraki Gulf, beaches of the West coast, and other attractions in greater Auckland.
What I Can Share with Hosts
I am happy to give you guidance on places to see and things to do around Auckland and New Zealand. I will give you the benefit of my knowledge of history, geography and the culture of New Zealand.
You may be planning to work during your stay in New Zealand. I can advise and assist you with opening bank accounts and obtaining IRD numbers. I can advise on purchasing a car, if you are planning a road trip.
I can show you around. It is my pleasure to spend time with visitors to my city, and the wider region. But if you prefer I can just give you some tips and you can do your own thing.
If you are requesting a couch for more than one person, please either attach a link to each CS profile, or include details in the request.
I live in St Heliers. This is in the eastern bays of Auckland, 30 minutes from the city centre, and a five minute walk to the beach.
