Overview
About Me
Hi my name is John and I'm from Canada! I am a traveler who has been traveling through Europe and now Asia. I originally planned on a 5 week journey around Europe, but I have been going strong for 6 months now. I plan on embarking on an incredible journey for the next 10 years.
One of the reasons why I am traveling is because I seek to grow as an individual, mentally, physically, and emotionally. Traveling is the greatest way to discover yourself, and depending on how you travel, it will also determine the limits you will push yourself in order to achieve your goals.
I am the type of person who will always try and push themselves past their breaking point, although I do have an anxiety wall that I sometimes hit, there are times where I have motivated myself through this wall. I am starting a new journey in my life and hopefully you will join me on this adventure.
I love meeting new people and I love inspiring others along the way. I don't motivate people to travel, but rather I motivate them to live their lives happily. I feel as though a lot of us are stuck in this groove of following the path of the person next to us. It's simple and easy to follow, but what we never think about is what our heart tells us to do. I'm hoping I can inspire the people I meet to look for more in their hearts and to hopefully chase after their dreams. Life is about growth, and we can never grow if our goal is revolved around the daily grind of making money.
I decided to post up my blog to document my journey and growth as an individual. Feel free to read through it if you have the time, but don't mind my poor writing skills.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
Couchsurfing is an amazing way to meet new people, which is one of my greatest assets. I love interacting and sharing myself with other people because I want to help inspire others to grow.
Most people in the world live their life in a straight line, never growing, never achieving anything more than what their comfort zone allows them to. I want to help inspire others to reach for the skies and try something new, always growing, always learning.
Interests
-I love writing, although I'm not very good at it.
-I enjoy playing sports, but my favourites are basketball, volleyball, and running.
-I'm a geek who loves computers, and video games
-I love watching movies and tv shows, so if you have any movies you can share that'd be awesome too! But I need English subtitles!
-I'm passionate about doing the right thing in life, I feel like the world is such an incredible place yet there are so many problems with it and the reasons behind it are absolutely horrible. It's so simple to just do the right thing, yet people have difficulty doing it.
- I love meeting new people and sharing stories, ideas, and opinions. I have had the opportunity to meet a lot of amazing people who have shaped my life for the better, and I hope I can be some sort of impact on the lives of others as well.
Music, Movies, and Books
I love all sorts of music, as long as it's good on the ears. I've listened to rock to rap, from techno to classical. Feel free to suggest music for me to listen to and I'll give you my honest opinions!
Movies I have no particular favourites, I enjoy anything as long as it's not gore. There's something about gore that just leaves an unsettling thought in my mind.
Although I like writing, I'm terrible at reading. I find myself falling asleep while I read, or my mind wanders a lot while I read. Unless I am extremely into the content, I'll just get bored and do something else.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Meeting all of the people who have shared their lives with me, and helping me to inspire other people to grow.
Teach, Learn, Share
I love learning, I think everyone has their own opinion on something and that's great. Yes we may disagree on a certain topic, but I think sharing ideas and opinions, cultures and ideologies are important for humans to connect and grow. We won't ever totally agree on everything, but as long as there is a mutual understanding that we respect each others thoughts, that's what is most important about life.
One thing I can teach to another person is to love. Not necessarily to love a particular person, but to love in general. I think we all are here on this planet and we're all made for something. There's something in us that we are perfect for and it can be the most silliest thing such as throwing a boomerang and doing crazy tricks with it, to drawing beautiful artwork. I think learning about what we love is important to help find our paths in life. When we love something we fight passionately and dearly for it, and you may not have found what you've loved in your life. But when you find it, you'll be amazed at how amazing it is to be in love.
Now that I am hosting with my housemate. We are living in an English center that is filled with students who are interested in learning English. We will never force you to speak with them, but if you want to exchange cultures with REAL Vietnamese students who have a lot of interest in learning your culture then that would be fantastic! Also we are offering free tours of Hanoi with several different tour types. This is all free and is helpful for these students to practice speaking English while also building up the skills necessary to develop their own society.
We offer these tours for you as well so that you can see the city from a different perspective. By giving you locals to help you around the city, show you neat places which you wouldn't have gone to on your own, trying food in local shops, or just interacting with people who really just want to meet you.
If you're interested in the free tour please let me know in the host request and we can set something up for you!
