About Me

CURRENT MISSION

I'm a teacher, also a writer. Right now I'm in Saudi Arabia teaching English to medical students. I want to travel to nearby countries such as Bahrain, UAE, Oman, etc. Also an avid recreational photographer. Fun social times along the way make it great.

ABOUT ME

I'm a pretty driven person. I've also been told I'm a good conversationalist. I work hard, and when I'm done with work there's nothing I like better to do than to get to know a place, to be out in town, and to go everywhere, meet everyone. I am extroverted, highly social, adventurous, but also I really appreciate my alone time. I'm a teacher but also a writer--I write novels, especially, but also short stories, travel narratives, and some journalism/creative non-fiction. When I'm writing, I tend to go deep inside myself. When I'm out, I'm out. There's nothing I like better than being out exploring a place, with friends or by myself.

Interests

I'm a teacher. I've taught high school English, literature, creative writing, some philosophy and humanities. I have been teaching ESL (English as a second language) to non-native speakers for the past four years, and I love it. I have taught students from many different countries, but right now I am in Saudi Arabia teaching Saudi students. I keep a journal of my travels and experiences, much of which I hope to collect later as novels or travel narratives. I am also a recreational photographer and take many pictures of my travels.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

What I've done and what I've seen have not been the same. I finished my first novel a couple of years ago. It was more than 600pp long and took me four years to write. My junior year of university I finished runner-up in the Northeastern regional boxing semi-finals, though that is far from me now. I was just amazed at the week I spent at an eco-resort in Panama--Al Natura--where we lived in an open-air hut surrounded by hand-sized spiders and caymans, without electricity or motor vehicles or services of any kind. I spent a month in a home-stay/full immersion in Costa Rica, studying Spanish (which was new to me) and on weekends visiting the rainforest at Monteverde, the volcano at Poas, and Avenida Central in San Jose. I received a master's degree in philosophy and literature from St John's College in Santa Fe, NM. Recently, I traveled by train through the American West and up into Canada--through the Rockies, to California, and up the coast to Vancouver; I took my mom. And yet, I actually feel I'm just getting started and have tremendous respect and envy for those who have traveled far more than I have.
