Overview
About Me
I enjoy spending time with friends. I moved away from the UK a few years ago, which leaves me spread between my future life here in Mallorca, and all of my good friends from back home, who I miss a great deal. I like to think of myself as someone people can count on and have a laugh with.
I would say that I am an adventurous person. I have travelled quite a lot, particularly in my early twenties, but the last three years have been remarkably settled. I never expected that - I still wonder if that will stay so.
I work in a school as a language teacher here on the island. I also travel in the summer and work as a tour guide. I started out with just an easy route from Paris to Munich, but have slowly started guiding in new cities. It's really fun, and I am always on the look out to broaden my cultural palate, so please excuse my innane questions about wherever you are from. I am sneakily trying to collect interesting stories for a bus commentary I may one day have to do.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
I am returning to couch-surfing after a two year break. I did a lot of travelling in 2012-2013 and then hosted in my first year here in Mallorca. I had universally positive experiences, and can recall each of them very clearly.
I have been renting a room the last 18 months, and so haven´t felt comfortable hosting,
but I just bought my own place here, and eager to share it with the right people, and enable travellers with integrity to get the best out of their stay in Mallorca.
Interests
Since 18 I have moved around a lot and really enjoy meeting people from different backgrounds and cultures. I love travel, but tend to prefer spending longer periods of time in places rather than short breaks. I really enjoy working with kids and making them think about things - pushing their boundaries a bit. As a child it was easy all to easy to turn away from the arts, however, with time, I've started to really spend a lot of time reading, getting into international cinema, checking out art galleries. It's opened me up a lot, and I feel a little more connected to the world and to myself! Particular reading interests tend to be philosophy, american literature, victorian english literature - film directors I like...loads - Terrence Malick, Wes Anderson, FF Copolla, Danny Boyle, Richard Linklater, Almodovar, Van Donnersmarck, Louis Malle, Luc Beeson, Tarantino, and David Lynch - the latter simply blows my mind! This list is slowly expanding, and largely with the help of travellers!
I enjoy sports too, but have found it difficult to find as much time for them as I would have liked recently. The Olympics has really reignited by passion for them though - keen player of squash, and I like to run long distances.
As a person, I am quite footloose, and like taking on new challenges in interesting places. I am sure I will settle down at some point.
Music, Movies, and Books
I like all three of these - there is not enough time in life for all of the movies, music and books though. This is lamentable.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
This is a good question. My previous profile included great detail, but I am going to save these stories up for whenever we meet. The last few years, I haven´t done too many amazing things. My most formative experiences were volunteering at the Paralympic Games, volunteering at a Youth Radio station, starting out teaching Philosophy in a British Secondary School, and all of the stress and reality balanced again pure idealism that came with that.
Teach, Learn, Share
The island of Mallorca is one I am getting to know better each year, but I am most interested in meeting people with a willingness to talk openly and with interest about the individual and society. I really enjoy these sorts of conversations - they are my daily bread.
What I Can Share with Hosts
I would love to learn to cook well. This new place has a great kitchen, but I am such a shoddy chef. I learnt my best recipes from movies.
