About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To learn what I can of the world through travel, languages and nature study.

ABOUT ME

I'm a grown up science nerd but am pretty well rounded out in the arts and humanities. With a degree in Chemistry and Medical Technology, most of my life's work has been as a Medical Scientist/Technologist in hospital labs. I live now on Hawaii's Big Island. Previously I lived on Saipan in the Northern Marianas Islands and on Kwajalein Atoll in the Marshall Islands for two years. I've done a lot of scuba diving and underwater photography. Now it's bird and plant and really-anything-interesting photography.

PHILOSOPHY

Critical thinking, if that's a philosophy. To look at people personally instead of politically.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Maybe accepting guests.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Traveled from Darwin to Alice to Aluru for four weeks in the Fall of 2013. We had a 4x4 and camper trailer so were able to go into some special places. The outback was great, especially at water holes and billabongs where I was able to photograph some great birds who liked to be near water.

Interests

I'm an amateur naturalist with a special interest in bird photography although i'm curious about most everything in the natural world. In addition to birds, i like to find and identify mushrooms and plants. Hiking and exploring are high on my list as well. I like to learn languages and am usually studying one. Currently I'm learning the flora and fauna on the Big Island.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Sky diving and Paragliding are the most thrilling things I've done. As a close second, for a brief moment I though I might be going to die during a scuba incident in rough water.

Teach, Learn, Share
