About Me

ABOUT ME

I was born in Seattle and lived all over the place as a kid, Idaho, California, New Mexico, Arkansas, Colorado. I work on a research vessel so I do quite a bit of travelling in the Great Lakes region, but when I'm off for the winter, Denver is my home.

Interests

Reading, writing, hiking, biking, movies, would like to try more backpacking and camping, but I work in the summer.

Music, Movies, and Books

My favorite movie is Blazing Saddles. I have a lot of favorite books. A Confederacy of Dunces and Time Enough for Love come to mind at the moment.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I've been in an awful storm on Lake Superior (the lake where the Edmund Fitzgerald went down). There were confused seas, which means that there swells coming from multiple directions. If we tried to take a certain course, we would just get beaten up by the wind and waves. We had to just ride things out by going in circles for 16 hours, through snow and 50 knot winds. They say there are five stages of seasickness: denial, nausea, sickness, fear of death, desire for death. I threw up so much that I skipped "fear of death" and went straight to "desire for death". After violent illness, I found the lowest point in the boat and stayed there for about 12 hours. It was bad, but we survived. Now, I have a true appreciation for Dramamine. I don't try to tough it out, I just take it.
