Overview
About Me
My wife and I live in Northeast Portland; I work as a writer for two websites about urban bicycling (one local, one national) and Mo works as a nurse. We're expecting our first child in late August.
Mo works nights, which means that some weeks it's important to have quiet during the day but also that we have an unused couch at night.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
Right now we're actually traveling and looking to meet up with other travelers, but I am also interested in starting to pay it forward as a host while we can.
Interests
I'm a professional bike nerd, but not oddly actually that interested in the equipment or athletic aspects of it. More than anything I love cities, their operation and their history. I can also keep up with most people on theater, music and literature, though these days mostly stick to nonfiction.

Music, Movies, and Books
Strings and lyrics: Bowie, New Pornographers, Mountain Goats, etc.
In 2015 I saw some pretty good "smart" movies but weren't none of them better than Mad Max Fury Road.
Last great book I read: One Hundred Years of Solitude.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
My best vacation ever was a three-day-two-night solo kayak/illegal-camping trip down the Mississippi from Minneapolis to Red Wing.
Teach, Learn, Share
I'm a full-time writer about bike transportation, so if I'm in your city there's a good chance it's to learn about the local bike infrastructure and culture. I'm always interested to talk about this, and the ways it interacts with housing, the economy and the ways cities work and change.
