About Me
CURRENT MISSION
Read ALL the books, sing ALL the songs, and meet ALL the people!
ABOUT ME
I live to travel. Every time I step abroad, my understanding of the world and the people in it grows tremendously, and I want to keep learning from others as I make my way across the map. For a while now, I haven't been pecuniarily disposed to take a global trek, but I'm finally beginning to make my way out of familiar territory and into strange new lands.
PHILOSOPHY
Every individual should be free to be just that: individual. If somebody doesn't want to join the great and terrible social construct affectionately referred to as the "rat race", then they should have an outlet to forge their own destiny, as it were, and becoming a globe-trotting traveler seems to be quite a fine way to do so.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
For the next few years, I am regrettably couchless. The moment I have one, though, I'll be doing what I can to give my fellow travelers a place to feel at home. For now, I want to join the couchsurfing community and make some friends, so that by the time I do have a couch it won't be empty for a moment!
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
I've had the opportunity to stay with a few wonderful hosts on several occasions.
Interests
My chief interest is expanding my mind. Your riches can be stolen, your possessions destroyed, your body broken, but the contents of your noggin are yours forever. I read as much as I can (a book a week!), I try to stay informed about all topics past and present, and I try always to listen to others and understand their perspectives.

Music, Movies, and Books
As mentioned above, I try to read a book every week. I'm falling a bit behind this year, but here are the books I've read so far in 2012:
The Town and the City, by Jack Kerouac
The Mystery of Edwin Drood, by Charles Dickens
Of Mice and Men, by John Steinbeck
Parallel Lives, by Plutarch
Leaves of Grass, by Walt Whitman
Frankenstein, by Mary Shelley
The Universe in a Nutshell, by Stephen Hawking
Lord Jim, by Joseph Conrad (in progress!)
Next on the list:
The Autobiography of Benjamin Franklin
Ulysses, by James Joyce
Journey to the West, by Wu Cheng'en
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
I entered the tomb of Saint Peter underneath Vatican City, I explored the crumbling ruins of Corinth and Mycenae, and I've lived on a desert island off the coast of Florida. Fun stuff!
Teach, Learn, Share
If you want to learn Latin or how to play the mandolin, I'm your man. Other than that, I have a penchant for mentioning random facts - I'm constantly learning new trivia about, well, trivial things.
