About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Travel the globe for 6 months making friends and learning along the way.

ABOUT ME

I love to travel to explore new sights, sounds and experiences. Love to cook - especially for a crowd of friends - so I also love to explore foods of other places/countries. Enjoy being outside - just to walk/hike or to play with friends. When I go someplace I enjoy seeing the big, world-renowned sites as well as wandering off the beaten path to see what the local flavor of the place is. Love walking around places rather than drive/bus/train - you learn so much more.

Always like to take in the culture - opera, dance, clubs, news, traditional events.

Enjoy talking with others and being in a crowd of good people.

When I'm home I stay active, enjoy going out as often as I can and having get-togethers or parties with my friends.

Personally I volunteer for a local health center, serve on a chamber of commerce, like to restore my old 1915 Colonial revival house, hit the gym and watch classic cinema.

As a guest I am respectful of other's space and belongings. I am neat and clean and follow the "house rules." If someone wants to hangout that's great, if they'd rather be left alone, that's fine too. When in Rome...

PHILOSOPHY

I believe that we each have to take responsibility for ourselves and our own actions while realizing that we don't exist in a vacuum and have an important responsibility to others/society also. Be respectful to those who are different from you, learn from them and find the unique strengths that their differences bring to the world. Leave every place you go a little nicer than it was when you found it.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Well, I haven't really officially had experience through CS as I joined recently. That said, I have always been willing to host people at my house, be they friends or friends-of-friends. I just finished a sort visit to Perth and stayed with a B-school friend's aunt!

I've also always liked to do the reverse when I travel as it's nice to spend some time with someone who actually lives in the place you are visiting and can tell you about the local city, culture, etc. My family hosted exchange students when I was growing up so this is probably where I learned to be so open about taking others into one's home.

Interests

I always enjoy meeting and getting to know new people. I enjoy cooking and I really enjoy eating - I like trying the local food wherever I go and trying to find foods that I just can't get back home. I have a BA in Art History, so I always enjoy visiting museum or cultural sites to learn more about a place's history and culture. I love being outdoors - in just about any weather and enjoying the natural beauty the Earth provides us. Long talks over wine that go late into the night about politics, life, the world and our place in it. Anything that provides me with new experiences to help broaden my perspective on the world!

Movies: Star Wars, Gilda, Boys in the Band, Julie & Julia, Grand Hotel, Auntie Mame, Heathers, Nueve Reinas.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

That's hard to answer as there are so many amazing things in the world.

Right this second, if I had to choose, I'd say the Hagia Sofia in Istanbul. It is an amazing work of architecture, it spans so much history, it is amazing it has survived earthquakes, wars & etc. for so long and it is tremendously beautiful. I can only imagine what it looked like when it was just built!

Teach, Learn, Share

I love to cook and would always be willing to share my knowledge of American food with others. I'm a big fan of people cooking together, so each can learn from the other.

I'd also always be up for a good talk about local politics or the film/music of our countries!

Countries I’ve Visited

Argentina, Australia, Canada, Chile, France, Italy, Japan, Morocco, Singapore, Spain, Switzerland, Turkey, United Kingdom, Venezuela

Countries I’ve Lived In
