About Me

I'm a creative, introspective thinker. Ideas interest me more than the material world, which is probably why I'm so "Spartan" when it comes to the things I own (to make my LA trip possible, I sold nearly all of my possessions.) I write because it's the best way for me to get my wild, crazy ideas out on paper, and into the world.

I love the adventure of making new friends, and the way someone new or different can open my mind. One of my greatest gifts is listening and asking questions, which often brings people to a deeper understanding of themselves and the way they see the world.

My virtues are honesty and independence. These are also vices, of course, as too much truth and independence can hurt people's feelings. I guess I'm a bit of a walking contradiction. Severely skeptical, yet also open to the "mystical"--whatever the hell that is. The search for God is what brings me meaning, as well as an insatiable appetite for discovery.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I'm looking to get to know LA from the ground up, and I want to do it in an unconventional way. I bought a one-way plane ticket, and will be looking for a place to stay until I can find a suitable living arrangement. I have a deep interest in writing, music and acting, and think the best way to understand the industry is to get to know the people, culture, and territory first. I've played a lot of my life "safe" in the way I haven't really taken a lot of risks. I want to do this move a little differently, and try on my more capricious side for a change. Besides, they say networking is key to getting an "in" anywhere. What better way to network than couch surf?

I wrote and directed a full-length play for an independent study in college, once. Pretty proud of that: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RSrFktjhQVI

Teach, Learn, Share

I want to learn the lay of the land. The secret nooks and crannies of LA. The hacks of getting around and making friends. If you can share your place, I make a great conversationalist, wing-man, and friend. I can sleep anywhere. Air mattress, couch, floor. I'm clean, laid-back, easy going, agreeable. The only reason I ever pissed off a roommate is because I stopped going grocery shopping with him and inviting him to hang out with my friends (I don't do neediness all that well.)

What I Can Share with Hosts

I can teach piano, critique writing (I proofread for a living, basically), make a damn good omelette (or cook anything that's not too complicated), willing to do work that you wouldn't normally do (clean bathrooms, vacuum, sweep, dishes, etc.) I also make a lively friend to take to bars and parties. I am an excellent conversationalist, but also, enjoy a pleasant, comfortable silence.
