Chi sono

CURRENT MISSION

My nonprofit lost funding at the end of end of June. I cashed in my vacation filled out some applications, dropped off resumes and decided I could afford to not have to wait in the 115* Phoenix heat while I wait to hear back. So I'm driving north.

ABOUT ME

As of the end of June I was running a nonprofit working with the homeless in Phoneix, AZ. We lost funding. I cashed in my vacation time, applied to a couple of places and decided I could afford to not have to wait in Phoenix to hear back from any of places I applied to. Especially since it was 115* in Phoenix and climbing when I left.

I just hiked the Grand Canyon, and stayed with friends at their cabin in Ophir, CO just outside of Telluride. My rent and bills are paid for the next month and I still have enough savings, plus my vacation time to not have to wait out this transition in Phoenix. Since I'm so close to Denver and Boulder I don't see any reason not to visit, I won't have this kinda opportunity again for a long time. I'm booking my first night at a hostel but would love to couchsurf to stretch out my stay and better enjoy the city. I really enjoyed my last couchsurfing and I'm bummed I didn't think about this sooner.

I'm really involved in my local politics, having gotten people elected to office and worked on other issue campaigns as well as organizing volunteers. But we don't have to talk about politics unless you want to.

I Boulder about 3-4 times a week and hike as often as I can.

I'm just out of my first career and still really positive about my possibilities. I hope to be working in the nonprofit area again. I've learned a lot about myself and my community by serving others.

Personality wise, I'm pretty easy going, and adaptable. I'm responsible for my own happiness and meaning. I worry way more about other people then I do myself in that I spend time anticipating what you're thinking and feeling. On the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator I'm an Inspirer (ENFP; Extraverted Intuition with Introverted Feeling). I tend to take things in through my intuition but still make allowance for other people. I expect others to be different so I don't hold my own values against you until I've gotten some idea of where you're coming from and where you're going.

PHILOSOPHY

My private and individual success is entirely dependent on public investment and community. I don't think resiliency is a description or critic of yourself or one person but whether your community allows for you to flourish and prosper. So from that I feel that my prosperity is intrinsically tied to your prosperity.

And the level of my success in life is entirely dependent on how often I put myself in awkward and uncomfortable situations. So I keep pushing myself to not just do new things but to become comfortable with the uncomfortable.

I love language and communication. Even if we both speak english as a first language we shouldn't assume we are using the same words. I'm more worried about whether you understand me versus me finishing a sentence.

I don't think we're just the sums of ourselves, I believe you have to factor in peoples potential. With that I don't think people are things to simple be understood and figured out, but whole processes to be experienced.

My individuality isn't just made up of things that make me different from other people. But more of an accumulation of everyone I've known, worked with, and their effort as well as anyone who's touched my life in some way.

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

My friends and I planned a road trip to Philadelphia from Phoenix and couchsurfed in Nashville and Ashville. I got to meet really great people and learn how awesome couchsurfing can be.

Right now I'm renting a 3bd house and I have a roommate moving out soon. After I get back from my trip I'd be happy to host people in Tempe, Arizona. I am a self appointed Ambassador to Tempe and Phoenix. I'd love to give people tours, a couch, or set them up with fun things to do.

Interessi

Hiking and Bouldering as often as I can. I enjoy politics when it's about dialogue not so much when it's just monologue. I love working in human service nonprofits and volunteering in my community.

Musica, film e libri

I love all the movies that Charlie Kaufman has had a hand in, Synecdoche New York is one of my favorites. I just finished watching all of the Star Trek series except for the original. I watch a lot of Netflix. I talk during movies unless you tell me not to.

I love conscious hip hop that either talks about societal issues or personal issues. But I also listen to a lot of other stuff, it's hard to keep track when sites like Google and Spotify suggest so many different artists. Right now my phone has Chemical Brothers, Spoon, Modest Mouse, Cold War Kids, Manu Chao, Vampire Weekend and then a ton of hip hop. Oddisee, Talib, and local Arizona Hip Hop.

Some of the best books I've read; the ones that I still think about even today are - Ishmael by Daniel Quinn, End Game by Derrick Jensen, Dispossessed by Ursula K Le Guin, and The Selfish Gene by Richard Dawkins. Right now I'm reading Prosperity without Growth.

Una cosa incredibile che ho fatto

I've honestly shared love with someone - not the kind that disappears when you're no longer with the person but the kind that's always growing.

I just hiked the Grand Canyon.

Before this summer I was running a nonprofit connecting those in homelessness and poverty to the people and programs that can help them transition back into society.

Insegna, impara, condividi

I'd like to share a conversation about social identity, the consciousness, relationships, personalities, politics, and anything that makes you happy learning.

I'd like to learn about why people think the way they do and about the things they are hungry to learn.

If you want to run for some kinda political office I could write you out a rough draft of a campaign plan.
