About Me

I'm a 29-year old, Canadian-born, Mauritian-raised, of Chinese descent. My home is Toronto, Canada, the greatest city in the world! There is nothing more that I enjoy in life than traveling. When I was 24 years old, I did the cliché leave-everything-behind-and-travel thing, so I moved to Malaga, Spain to teach English there for a school year. This is where I discovered couchsurfing! I’ve also done a Workaway stay, stayed at Airbnbs, and hostels, but I always have such a good time couchsurfing! I've explored over 2 dozen countries and can speak 4 languages, including my family's native Mauritian creole, and I am currently learning Portuguese. I love meeting new people and learning about their culture. I'm pretty open-minded and always up for an adventure!

When I am not traveling, I work as a full time engineer in Toronto in the field of heavy construction. In my free time I go to the gym regularly, practice and teach yoga (yes, I can teach you yoga), try new restaurants (Toronto is notorious for being a foodie’s paradise), and spend quality time with my friends and family. I am also an Airbnb host in Toronto. When I travel (which is quite frequent), I just let others enjoy my apartment as it is located in downtown Toronto and very convenient.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Couchsurfing, workaway-ing, house-sitting, meetup-ing are all great ways to meet new and exciting locals while traveling. I'm especially passionate lately about languages, so I am quite keen on getting to know my hosts in various languages. Since I only either travel alone or with just one other travel buddy, I am using Couchsurfing as a way to make new friends along the way, so it's not just me crashing in your house. Of course, if you don't have time for that, I'm alright with being by myself too. I'm pretty resourceful when it comes to occupying my time.

Interests

Nature: hiking, camping, etc.

Music: From electronic, rock, rap, bossa nova, folk, to trip-hop, I mostly really dig the underground stuff.

Nerdy stuff: strategic board games, medieval fiction and fantasy, Star Wars.

Food. Any food.

Travel.

Sports: Gotta love the gym! Spinning, boxing/kick-boxing, swimming, weight-training, yoga and almost anything else that makes me sweat but that doesn't involve running...

Music, Movies, and Books

Favorite band: Radiohead
Favorite movie (series): Lord of the Rings
Favorite book (series): Harry Potter

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

So far I count 3 unforgettable things I've done:

1. I taught English in Malaga, a sunny coastal city in Southern Spain. As cheesy as it may sound, that is where I "found myself".

2. I did a bicycle tour in Cuba for one month, cycling the Western half of the island, between Pinar del Rio to Trinidad. It was the most physically exhausting, emotionally poignant, and culturally enthralling month of my life.

3. My favorite place in the world is a tie between the ruins of Angkor Wat in Cambodia and the Sahara desert in Morocco. That's where I experienced a truly magical feeling.

Teach, Learn, Share

I am a certified yoga teacher; I teach weekly classes in Toronto. I would love to give you a private class!

I'd love to learn/discover your local music and food!

We can share stories. I'm a good listener.

What I Can Share with Hosts

It's always a treat to get to know people from all over the world. I can share my experiences and stories. Just speaking with different people can impact you and change your perspective about things you always thought you knew. In the end, we always evolve, and thanks to CS among other networks, we can have the whole world at the tips of our fingers.
