About Me

I am a philosopher. There is a saying that goes: "If you meet a philosopher you better don't say anything to him except wishing him a good morning."

Because if you do say anything else to him, it could get you into all kinds of trouble! He will second-guess every other word you say and challenge your worldview. He will drag you into discussions about what it means to lead a good life, about the fundamental structures of the universe and about how we can change the world.

So if you don't like this kind of conversations, I highly recommend to you: just wish me a good morning and be on your way.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

When I first started studying, I didn't have any money to see the world. That's why I joined couchsurfing: So the world would come to me.

And Indeed I have had the pleasure of hosting some wonderful people that brought their world to me and made me feel like I was on vacation in my own city.
Sadly, when I moved into a dormitory I couldn't host any more.

But now I am back! My university paid for a trip so I could attend a conference in Claremont. So what do you do when you get a free trip around half of the world? Exactly! You go and add two weeks so you can see the place!

Interests

As a philosopher I am a very curious character and am basically interested in everything.
But if the question is to be understood as "what do you spend you free time on?" I would have to say: art.

I am very passionate about theatre, movies, acting and writing. I don't want to become a professional actor or writer, I simply enjoy doing it.

Music, Movies, and Books

I hate this question. Taste is everchanging and cannot be pinned down like that. But if I had to pin down one of each, at the moment I would say:

One of my favorite bands is "The Darkside". When I was on their concert and they started playing, my eyes closed, I started dancing and only stopped when the music did.

My favorite movie this year so far was "Ex Machina". I simply love the whole topic of artificial intelligence and currently I am writing some A.I. fiction of my own.

My favorite book that I read this year was "Peer Gynt" by Henrik Ibsen. There is some funky shit going on in this story for a playwright of the 19.th century and I couldn't foresee it at all - that's what defines a good book for me.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I have been bungee jumping and free climbing some years ago.
But actually the most amazing thing I have done so far was to minister at my sister's wedding. The thing is: my sister is an atheist as is her husband. They wanted a classical wedding with everything except the church. So she asked me, if I wanted to perform the ceremony. And I cannot even begin to tell you how magical this day was!

Teach, Learn, Share

Yes. Totally. Always up for that kind of stuff! But I guess we would have to find out what exactly the two of us could learn from each other.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I can share meals (I am a decent cook) or - on the risk that this might sound a bit slippery - massages (I worked as a wellness masseur for some time). But I expect to get a massage in return!
