About Me

---- I'm currently travelling and can't accept guests at home in Brighton. However, I'm sure I'll be looking for places to stay on the next leg of my trip! ----

My girlfriend and I have been travelling for a while now, spending a lot of time in India and then in Thailand and Laos.

I'm useless and talking about my qualities and deficiencies as they all merge together to make me. By trying to isolate them I only become confused. The resulting failures in my attempts to do so have made me a resolute advocate of holism and a promoter of balance rather than relentless analysis.

My hobbies could help to create a crude construct of what I'm like. I'm a keen mountain biker. I love sport, especially basketball. I play guitar, among other instruments, and used to play and sing in a band with close friends. The happiness I gain from playing music grew from my love of music itself. I'll have no problem talking for hours about bands you may or may not like.

Also, trees. I love trees. Especially groups of them; forests.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

The promotion of people meeting regardless of creed, interests or any other arbitrary definition, whilst catering for cheaper travel and therefore worldly experience is a good idea in my book.

Interests

As well as the hobbies listed above, I harbour an enthusiastic interest in physics, particularly quantum physics and its links to consciousness. Cosmology and the general unfathomable scale of the universe is a good one too.

I love to read and learn. I'm a lover of Greek mythology, particularly Homer's epics.

It sounds stupid to say philosophy is an interest but I guess it is. Plato's super early views on monistic idealism, i.e. 'The Cave' and their connotations on modern science, the shift from materialism and dualism towards a more 'spiritual' outward look at ourselves and our surroundings is a current trend of 'interesting' thought.

The world as a dynamic system, a prevailing ecosystem, strikes a deep chord with me. Growing up I found forests and the English countryside to be magical. My path into Forestry will hopefully lead to a synthesis between Forestry practices, sustainability and a personally economically-viable way of living.

I love animals and take their rights very seriously.

Music, Movies, and Books

Music is too eclectic and subjective to mood and personality to be generalised. There's literally no point in listing a 'choice few'.

Whilst some probably believe the same stands for books I find it a little easier when it comes to fiction.

The Belgariad and The Mallereon series by David Eddings. The best ten fiction books ever written.

As for non-fiction, I again fall into a convoluted mess of incapability.

I love Anime and the eco-trend in Japanese cinema.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Shared the last 6 years of my life with the most wonderful woman I could have dreamed of.

Teach, Learn, Share

Whilst I can't think of something I can sit you down and teach, I would hope that through natural conversation and activity you would leave my company feeling like it wasn't a complete waste of time. Whatever that means.

Of course, helping with English is fairly straightforward.

What I Can Share with Hosts

A friendly, conversational nature. I enjoy losing myself in conversation and hearing of the experiences of others.

I'll help in anyway I can if needed, no complaints.

I imagine what I end up sharing will be an amalgamation of the aspects of myself discussed above.

Countries I’ve Visited

Australia, Austria, Belgium, France, Germany, India, Ireland, Italy, Laos, Nepal, Netherlands, Scotland, Slovenia, Switzerland, Thailand, Wales
