About Me

I am an all times curious, sometimes grumpy, occasionally introvert, but mostly talkative nerdy child, who doesn't really know how to handle the fact that everyone in my age must be so adult.

As a professional, I teach machines how to behave intelligent (they aren't) and to research why this is a doomed task anyways :-)

I further enjoy hiking, playing music (guitar, singing, electronics), crafting nerdy things, and making artsy but fancy tech bs.

I love to meet new people and talk about stuff that goes beyond the small talk horizon. Even though I'm on general a bit anxious person I love to push beyond comfort zones :-)

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I like to talk with people about interesting stuff and in general I like the idea of an international network of people who are loosely connected and are just kind to each other so that everyone gets a bit more happy - may it be by having a place to crash, a fellow for a pub night or just someone joining for walk.

In the past I have not been super active here, except for using CS a lot for meeting new people when being in new cities, where I don't know anyone. I think I am personally not fully convinced of sleeping at strangers places (or letting them sleep at mine). But I like the idea of seeing cities/places a little bit more through the eyes of a local.

Since my studies have been quite demanding in the past I was always lacking on the core ingredients for traveling: money and time. This will change in the near future. So be prepared of me to travel around :-)

Interests

In generally I just love to learn new stuff (doesn't matter what) and I love to talk about stuff that I know :-)

I am a facts person, so getting new facts/theories/concepts in my head is a weird habit of mine. A couple of years I read random Wiki pages for an hour a day as a hobby. In general understanding stuff gets me excited.

Further, I am a machine learner. This means I use mathematics, computer science (and a huge pile of black box voodo) to teach machines to solve intelligence tasks with algorithms. It is not just a job or profession for me. Instead I made my curiosity-hobby to my job.

Besides that I am a passionate hobby musician. I played guitar and trumpet in a couple of bands and have been one of two front-singers of a reggae combo for a couple of years.

Another passion of mine is artsy technical stuff (robots drawing things, fancy visualization of data, electronic or interactive sound art).

Music, Movies, and Books

music: Johann Sebastian Bach - mostly the fugues
movie: The good, the bad and the ugly - I don't know why, but I can watch it as often as I want without it getting boring :-)
books: There are too many good novels that I read in my life (and even more bad ones). Some constant names have been: Terry Pratchett, Haruki Murakami, Michel Houellebecq and Max Goldt

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Hiking in the alps (>3000m), hiking in Norway, week in SF and NY

Teach, Learn, Share

Teach: guitar, math, computer science, artificial intelligence
Learn: guitar, chess, yoga
Share: knowledge, food, ideas

What I Can Share with Hosts

Probably nothing extraordinary.

I have no problems to share food, ideas, time or help.

I have big problems to share toothbrushes, intimacies, my body, or similar with strangers - but I guess this should not even be listed here. (Or maybe it does? CS seems to attract really really weird people sometimes.)

Countries I’ve Visited

Austria, Croatia, Denmark, Finland, France, Ireland, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Scotland, Slovenia, Sweden, Switzerland, Turkey, United States
